Skoda recently released its own version of the new Volkswagen Up! Known as the Skoda Citigo, the new model will be launched in the Czech market in late 2011. It will later be available in the UK and rest of Europe starting summer 2012. The car should make it to India late 2012 to early 2013, if Skoda green signals it.

The Citigo’s styling mixes its current cues from the Fabia with the look of its recent VisionD and MissionL concept cars. It features a finned grille set in a chrome-plated frame, similar to that seen on the MissionL.

The car is 3560mm long, 1650mm wide and 1480mm high. Skoda claims that its 2420mm wheelbase offers enough interior space for four passengers, making it comfortable even for long trips. Boot volume is 251 litres, or 951 litres with the rear seats folded down.

The Skoda Citigo will be available in 1.0-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine with two power outputs – 59bhp and 74bhp. Highly economical variants under the Green Tec banner will also be available. The Citigo will be available in both manual and automatic transmissions.

“The Citigo is one of the pillars of our growth strategy. It paves the way for tremendous opportunities in a new segment,” said Skoda Board Chairman Prof. Dr. h.c. Winfried Vahland. “The Citigo is literally a ‘Simply Clever’ car. Despite its small size, it offers ample interior space; it is agile while frugal. Put simply – it’s an attractive choice offering many clever ideas. The car offers all of Skoda’s values in a compact package and fits perfectly with our aims.”
