Mahindra & Mahindra is yet to notify us of the exact launch date of one of the most anticipated car launches of 2013, of that of the new facelifted Mahindra Scorpio. A rumour with its origins on Overdrive pegs the launch date of the Scorpio facelift is scheduled on 09th of October, 2013, which is today. According to the same, the facelifted Scorpio christened the ‘Scorpio Launch Edition’ will replace the existing model. Just last-month Mahindra unveiled the Scorpio Special Edition.

The Scorpio Launch Edition will come with a few cosmetic changes, although the mechanicals will remain unchanged. The front of the new Scorpio is expected to undergo changes in order to distinguish it from the current generation model. The rear portion is also expected to see some modifications to spice up the overall look of the vehicle. As far as redesigned interior is concerned, the Scorpio Launch Edition will get more space for passengers with upmarket interiors.

The Scorpio Launch Edition will be available with two engine options 2.2-litre mHawk turbo diesel engine that now produces 120 BHP with 290 Nm, and a 2.5-litre m2DiCR turbo diesel motor that churns out 75 BHP with 220 Nm. Both engines are mated to 5-speed manual gearbox, while there are rumors that 6-speed auto box would no longer be available on the Scorpio facelift. And this big and butch SUV will be available in the rear wheel drive and all-wheel-drive versions.

If launched, Mahindra has scheduled the launch of the Scorpio Launch Edition on the same day, where-in the launch of Nissan Terrano will take place to grab the sales and try to retain the same situation in coming months. Though whatever the fact is, one thing is clear that in coming days some hot scenario will emerge in SUV market.

(NoteAs we said, the launch of New Mahindra Scorpio facelift turned-out to fake in this post, The rumour remains just that, a mere rumour, as Mahindra today launched a ‘Scorpio Special Edition‘ limited to 500 units.)
