Renault-Nissan India small car to rival with Maruti Alto and Hyundai Eon

In India there is huge demand for small cars, more and more car manufacturers are entering the small car segment of the auto industry. A new report suggests that Renault-Nissan India will be launching a new small car which will compete with the existing market leader, Maruti Suzuki Alto and newly launched Hyundai Eon small car.

Mr Sudhir Rao, COO, Renault India, said, “40-50 % of the car market in India is at the entry level and going ahead too it will form one third of the total car market. So, our entry is inevitable. And this is a step in that direction.”

It further emphasizes Renault-Nissan’s intentions for India. The company has already slated five cars for India – Koleos, Fluence, Pulse, Duster, an entry-level sedan and this new small car will be the sixth. Of these, Fluence and Koleos are already launched while Pulse, Duster and the sedan will be launched through 2012.

The new Renault Nissan small car is specially made for the Indian car market, though the car won’t be designed in India. French car manufacturer, Renault design team back in Europe is currently working on developing an innovative and futuristic design for their Indian car market bound small car.

Renault-Nissan small car will be manufactured at their jointly owned plant in Chennai, which was inaugurated earlier this year, and has an installed production capacity of 400,000 units.
