Photo Rendering – Skoda’s version of Volkswagen Taigun Compact SUV

Skoda Jeti

Although Skoda’s sedan vehicles such as Octavia, Superb had bought the company great fortunes, sadly companies compact SUV Yeti failed to achieve decent sales in the Indian market, due to its odd styling and also due to out-of-the-box pricing. Now fresh set of reports suggest that Dr. Winfried Vahland, chairman of Skoda Auto has admitted that the slow selling Skoda Roomster MPV (not on-sale in India) would be eventually replaced by a new compact SUV.

Dr. Winfried Vahland added saying, the Roomster’s styling split opinions and also the MPV segment is slipping a bit due to the sudden rise of the compact SUV segment. We expect a compact crossover SUV, something similar to the VW Taigun concept to replace the Roomster MPV.

But company’s re-entry into SUV segment doesn’t end here, Skoda’s head of technical development hinted that the company is also looking closely at a 7-seat SUV which could sit above the Yeti. Here too, Skoda has an advantage as it is not necessary to start from the plain sheet because recently Volkswagen had unveiled the 7-seat Cross Blue concept, which could very well be the outline of the new Skoda SUV.

Apart from the above report, our good friend Theophilus Chin from theophiluschin.com has come up with a rendering image of Skoda’s upcoming compact SUV and named it has ‘Skoda Jeti’. The Jeti is a combination of ‘Junior’ and ‘Yeti’. This rendering is based on Volkswagen Taigun and gets the Skoda trademark butterfly grille as well as meaner headlamps. If ever Skoda moves forward with this project, the final production model of upcoming compact SUV might look like this.
