Volkswagen Group India has announced the introduction of the Beetle 1.4 TSI in the country at Rs. 28.73 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai).
The vehicle’s 1.4-litre TSI mill, good for 150 PS, is paired to a seven-speed DSG transmission, and delivers an ARAI-certified mileage of 17.68 km/l. The new model comes with a start/stop system with generative braking.
The new Beetle carries over the retro styling from the previous-generation models. Featuring an panoramic sunroof with tilt and slide functions, bi-xenon headlamps with LED daytime running lights, front fog lamps with static cornering function, LED license plate lights, body-coloured protective side mouldings with chrome strip and a rear spoiler.
Step-inside, the new Beetle gets Vienna leather seats, a leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel with paddle shifters, also leather-wrapped handbrake and gear knob, 3 colours – mood lighting on front speaker surround, chrome inserts, scuff plates, paddle shifters and illuminated vanity mirrors.
Other items on the list include a music system with 8 speakers and USB, Aux-in and Bluetooth connectivity, dual-zone climate control, auto-dimming IRVM, cruise control, auto headlamp activation, ran sensor and height adjustable front-seats.
As far safety is concerned, the new Beetle gets 6 airbags, ESP & ABS, parking sensors with display and hill-hold among others. A total of 4 colours are on offer – Habanero Orange, Oryx White, Tornado Red and Blue Silk. The India-spec Beetle gets 16-inch alloy wheels shod with 215/60 R16 section tyres. It will compete with the likes of the Mini Cooper and the Abarth 595 Competizion.
