New 2016 Mercedes-Benz A-Class launched in India – from Rs. 24.95 lakh

India’s largest luxury car maker, Mercedes-Benz staying true to its words today launched its 15th car of 2015 addressing it as “15 in 15”. The 15th vehicle of this series is facelifted version of A-Class hatchback which undergone a fair bit of cosmetic changes.

In India, the facelifted A-Class is priced starting at Rs. 24.95 lakh for the petrol A 180 Sport and Rs. 25.95 lakh for the diesel A 200 d Sport (both prices ex-showroom Mumbai). The new A-Class carries Mercedes-Benz’s famed design philosophy of sensuous clarity and exudes modern luxury. It sets new benchmark in the compact luxury segment with enhanced comfort, sportiness, safety and efficiency levels.

Featuring a very well-rounded overall look, the 2016 A-Class gets a redesigned grille, revised headlamps with optional LED High Performance headlights, revised tail lights, new alloy wheel designs, black wing mirrors  and exhausts finishers that are now fully integrated into the rear bumper. The premium hatchback also receives new Elbaite Green exterior color option.

A subtly revamped interior is included too. The new 3-spoke nappa leather draped steering wheel and leather draped shift lever are perhaps the biggest change, along with re-profiled instrument cluster layouts, centre console buttons and a 12-colour LED ambient lighting pack. On the multimedia front, a larger screen (8.0-inch, 1.0-inch bigger than before) COMAND infotainment system with Apply CarPlay and MirrorLink support.

A total of 17 engine options are on offer worldwide. In India, the A-Class gets same engine option as the outgoing version without any changes. The petrol motor is a 1.6-litre unit which generates 122 PS and 200 Nm of torque. The 2.2-litre oil burner is good for 136 PS and 300 Nm of torque. Both engines are mated to a 7G-DCT dual-clutch automatic transmission with the “economy”, “sport” and “manual” transmission modes, driving the front wheels.

As far as safety is concerned, the new 2016 A-Class comes loaded with safety features like 6 airbags, ABS, brake assist, ASR, ESP, attention assist and hill start assist.
