Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class launched – former ML-Class, from Rs. 58.90 lakh

As told earlier, Mercedes-Benz has scheduled to launch 4 SUVs in India by the end of 2016 and they will be the GLE, GLE Coupe, GLS and GLC.

The company today launched the GLE-Class in India, what is the facelift for the ML-Class. Available in two variants – GLE 250d and GLE 350d, priced at Rs 58.90 lakh and Rs 69.90 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Both variants will be assembled at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Chakan, near Pune. The launch of the GLE further cements Mercedes-Benz’s strong presence in the fastly growing luxury SUV segment in India.

The completely updated front-end brings the GLE in line with the rest of the current Mercedes range visually. It gets restyled full LED headlamps with integrated LED daytime running lights, a grille with twin slats and a centrally positioned star, larger air dams, new bumpers, tweaked LED tail lamps and reworked tail pipes. The exterior design of the GLE adds dynamism and makes the SUV appear wider.

Step-inside, Mercedes-Benz GLE Class receives a 3-spoke multifunction steering wheel, reworked dashboard and instrument cluster, an 8-inch display for the infotainment system, COMAND Online with telematics and, Mercedes-Benz Apps, navigation, telephone, audio, video, internet and wi-fi hotspot. The carefully selected materials and workmanship are highlight of the GLE’s interiors and spell high-quality appeal.

Powertain is carried from the ML-Class with two engine options – the GLE 250d and the GLE 350d. The GLE 250d will be powered by a 2143cc, 4-cylinder diesel engine developing 203 BHP and 500 Nm of torque, while the GLE 350d is powered by a 2987cc, V6 diesel engine producing 255 BHP and 620 Nm of torque. Both engines are mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission and a permanent four-wheel drive system.

The innovative DYNAMIC SELECT system on the GLE offers 5 drive modes – Comfort, Sport, Slippery, Individual and Off-road. The DYNAMIC SELECT adjusts vehicle’s suspension to increase the ground clearance to a maximum of 232 mm. The suspension is automatically lowered by 15 mm at high speeds.

As far as the safety features and assistance systems are concerned, Mercedes-Benz GLE Class is equipped with 6 airbags, Crosswind Assist, Attention Assist, Active Parking Assist and Brake Assist Plus.
