German luxury car manufacturer, Mercedes Benz India, which has recently achieved the position of number two luxury carmaker in the domestic market, will enter into an all-new segment, and it will be the first of its class sport hatchback in India. Till now, no other luxury car manufacturer has launched premium hatchback, except BMW, which brought MINI brand in India.

The company is all set to launch its A-Class premium hatchback in India on 30th May 2013. The A-Class hatchback will take position as a younger sister of last-year launched B-Class luxury hatchback. For the Indian market, the A-Class will initially come via completely built units (CBU) route, while the local assembly will commence later this year or by next year.

Mercedes has already started teasing its upcoming sports hatch on Facebook and Twitter. But, the company has nothing disclosed about the price, we expect all the variants of new beast would be offered under Rs 20 lakh in Indian auto market. In terms of price, features and specs, the new hatchback by Mercedes Benz will give stiff competition to upcoming BMW 1 Series.

Under the hood, the A-Class will be made available in both options like petrol and diesel. Its gasoline model will have a 1.6-litre petrol engine under the hood while the diesel model will be empowered with a 1.8-litre turbo diesel power train. Both these power trains are mated to a fuel efficient and hassle free 7-speed dual clutch automatic transmission system.
