Maserati’s new Kubang SUV christened as ‘Cinqueporte’

A new report coming out of Italy from Unica Strada suggests that Maserati’s new Kubang SUV will be called ‘Cinqueporte’ (pronounced as ˈtʃinkwe- porte, meaning five-door in Italian). This news comes from an Italian publication which suggests that Maserati has registered ‘Cinqueporte’ as the name for the new car with the European patent and trademark office. The new name is very Maserati-ish as we have seen in the past. The four-door saloon from the car maker is called the Quattroporte, also after four-doors. Whatever they want to call it – it’s much better than Kubang.

While the SUV will be based on the Jeep Grand Cherokee platform, most of the design and development work will be taken care of by Maserati. The final design will be put together by a team led by Lorenzo Ramaciotti. Engine choices will be put together in Modena by Paolo Martinelli – Head of the Maserati Powertrain Department who has worked for nearly 30 years at Ferrari. The engine will be mated to an 8 speed automatic transmission that will be developed in Modena as well.
