Suzuki Baleno – has Maruti’s YRA been named, debut on September 15

Suzuki’s new hatchback will be known as the ‘Baleno’, a name which has been used by the company earlier too, however, it is unclear if Maruti will use the name in India. The Swift’s elder-sibling was codenamed the ‘YRA’ and was rumoured to be called ‘Fronx’ earlier.

The Baleno will make its debut at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA 2015) which begins on September 15, 2015. With the premiere just a month away, Suzuki has released a teaser video of the Baleno and in the video it looks identical to that of the concept, making it longer and wider than the Suzuki Swift. This video also reveals the front, rear and side-profile of the Baleno production-model.

The Baleno will come equipped with all-black interiors, touch-screen for navigation, multimedia and park assist, steering mounted controls, cruise control, power folding mirrors, keyless entry with start/stop button, automatic climate control, rear AC vents, LED DRLs, projector headlamps, airbags, ABS and the new SHVS mild hybrid system too will be introduced, but at a later stage.

The Euro-spec Baleno will be powered by the new 1.0-litre, three-cylinder, turbocharged gasoline ‘Boosterjet’ engine, that is tuned for fuel-efficiency. However, the Boosterjet will not be offered in India, to keep the prices on check, at least initially. Other two choices are likely to make into India, a 1.2-litre K-Series petrol petrol engine and the Fiat sourced 1.3-litre DDiS Multijet diesel unit producing 90 PS of power.
