With the current demand for new and updated models, Maruti Suzuki being the no.1 passenger car manufacturer in the Indian market is continuously working to introduce new models as well as update the existing one. As per the reports obtained from Financial Express, Maruti is currently working on an all new premium hatchback codenamed ‘YRA’ which would be launched in 2015-2016 in the Indian market.

Reports also suggest that the new premium hatchback would be positioned above the Ritz and Swift with production taking place in India and Hungary. One of the sources close to the development says that Maruti needs such a model to tackle the tough competition from the rival companies such as Hyundai (i20) and Honda (Jazz) which are in fact now producing cars which are good in terms of styling, space, build quality or the features list.

One more source mentions that the development of the upcoming codenamed premium hatchback YRA is in its advanced stage in both India as well as in the headquarters in Japan. YRA is expected to be built on the current Swift platform. Much more details about this car are not yet available.
