Mahindra launched base XUV500 W4 variant at Rs. 10.83 lakh

Mahindra & Mahindra today launched the much-talked base model of XUV500 crossover, the W4 surprisingly prices start at Rs. 10.83 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai), as the entry-level variant is called still boasts of a lot of features and power, as compared to the other SUV in its class or price range. Competitive price for Mahindra XUV500 W4 variant has been achieved through omitting some features, making the SUV more accessible for buyers. However, the key features of the XUV500 remain standard including the cheetah inspired styling and 2.2-litre diesel mHawk engine that puts out 140bhp and comes mated to a six-speed manual gearbox.

Compared to the top-end W8 variant, the W4 base-variants omits front fog lamps, cruise control, tyre-tronics, intellipark, rain-sensing wipers, intelligent light-sensing headlamps, 6-inch touchscreen infotainment system with DVD player, hill hold & hill descent control, telescopic steering, side & curtain airbags, leather upholstery, power-foldable ORVMs, steering mounted audio control, automatic climate control, ESP (Electronic Stability Program), static bending headlamps and alloy wheels. Other unnecessary features the W4 misses-out are cladding strips, glass embedded antenna, conversation mirror, puddle lamps, entry assist lamp, door ajar lamps, camping lamp, reading lamps for 2nd and 3rd row seats and power windows with driver side express down.

Surprisingly, the XUV500 W4 variant will only be available in 2 color options Moondust Silver and Volcano Black. And the interiors will have no black dual-tone option, instead will feature only light beige dual-tone color option. Mahindra however has done well by retaining the projector headlamps with LEDs, micro hybrid system, electrically adjustable side rear view mirrors, tilt-adjustable power steering, remote central locking, a six-way adjustable driver’s seat and foldable second and third row seats. Apart from these features other unnoticeable safety features which will grab attention of buyers include ABS with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), side impact beams, crash protection with crumple zones and disc brakes for all-4-wheels (even missing-out in Toyota Fortuner).

The new XUV 500 W4 is energized with 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine developing the power of 140 bhp and torque of 330 Nm. The power to front wheels is transmitted with six-speed manual transmission. Despite the powerful engine, the XUV500 W4 offers an impressive fuel economy of 15 kmpl (ARAI certified). The vehicle sprints 0 to 60 kmph from standstill in just 5.4 seconds.
