The Mahindra KUV100 has been launched today in India. The second highly-awaited compact SUV from Mahindra is priced at Rs. 4.42 lakh and ranging up to Rs. 6.76 lakh (ex-showroom, Pune).
The ‘K’ on the KUV moniker stands for Kompact, this SUV is a hatchback on high-heels coming from the automaker known for off-roader SUVs. With crossover like styling, the KUV100 gets wraparound headlamps, LED daytime running lights, double-barrel tail lamps, dual-tone bumpers, roof rails, black side cladding, front & rear foglamps, a rear spoiler and 14-inch alloy wheels.
On the inside, the interior gets a dual-tone beige-black dashboard with silver and glossy black inserts, a dashboard-mounted gear lever, multi-function steering wheel, twin-pod instrument cluster + MID and Micro Hybrid (start stop system). The KUV100 has a third seat in the middle of the first row to accommodate an adult which makes it a 6 seater. It also comes as a 5-seater in the higher variants.
Other features on-board includes a infotainment system with Bluetooth connectivity and 6-speakers, hands-free calling + BlueSense App compatibility, cooled glovebox, sunglass holder, cup holders in the first and second row armrests, bottle holders on all four doors, under-seat and under-floor storage spaces and a 243-litre boot.
Under the hood, the KUV100 is offered with a choice of two – a 1.2 litre, 3-cylinder mFalcon petrol engine generating 82 BHP and 115 Nm of torque, and a 1.2 litre, 3-cylinder mFalcon diesel engine producing 77 BHP and 190 Nm of torque. Both the engine comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission, sending power to the rear wheels. It delivers an ARAI-certified fuel efficiency of 18.15 kpl for petrol and 25.32 kpl for diesel. The K6, K6+ and K8 variants get Eco and Power mode, while the Micro Hybrid technology (start-stop system) is only offered on the K8 variant.
As far as safety is concerned, the KUV100 comes equipped with ultra high strength steel over a monocoque construction, dual front airbags, ABS and EBD. ABS and EBD is standard across all variants. However, airbags are offered as an option. It will be offered in 7 variants – K2, K2+,K4, K4+, K6, K6+ and K8. And a total of 7 colours on offer – Fiery Orange, Flamboyant Red, Dazzling Silver, Aquamarine, Pearl White, Designer Grey and Midnight Black.
