Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) India launched its entry-level SUV the Land Rover Discovery Sport in the 2.0-litre petrol guise. Priced attractively starting price at Rs 56.50 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), the new petrol Discovery Sport will only be available in the mid HSE variant in both 5-seater and 7-seater option.
Tata Motors-owned British brand vows to adapt to the changing market conditions. This new launch comes as a response to the ban on the sales of diesel cars with engines of 2.0-litre or more in Delhi and NCR since December 2015, which has been now extended to Kerala and could be extended to more cities as well in the near future.
As far as features are concerned, the new petrol Discovery Sport HSE variant comes with and Rover’s trade mark “All Terrain Capability”, Hill Descent Control (HDC), Roll Stability Control (RSC), Electronic Traction Control (ETC), Dynamic Stability Control (DCS), Command Driving position, Adaptive Xenon Headlamps, Panoramic Sunroof, multiple USB charging points etc…
Further features a remarkable Park Assist feature, which helps in parallel parking and Park Exit & Perpendicular Park which are hugely popular with many Discovery Sport customers. Compared to its diesel sibling, the turbo petrol motor makes the Discovery Sport faster by clocking 0-100kmph in just 8.2 seconds.
In terms of mechanicals, the new petrol Discovery Sport retains the petrol motor from its cousin Jaguar XE sedan. This 2.0-litre petrol unit develops 237 BHP of power and 340 Nm that send power to all wheels. However, unlike the Jaguar that gets an 8-speed gearbox, the Land Rover gets a 9-speed unit.
