The Versys 650 looks like a downsized version of the litre-class Kawasaki Versys 1000. It will compete against the other middleweight sports touring motorcycle like the Benelli TNT 600GT and the Honda CBR650F. The Versys 650 will be sold through the existing Probiking Sales network operated by Bajaj Auto.

Under the skin, the Versys 650 is powered by the same engine that is used to propel Ninja 650 and ER-6n. This 649cc fuel-injected parallel-twin, liquid cooled engine, paired to a 6-speed transmission churns-out a peak power of 68.05bhp at 8,500rpm with a maximum torque of 64Nm at 7,500rpm. ABS is provided as standard equipment.

In India, the Versys 650 will be imported as Completely Knocked Down (CKD) units from Thailand and will be assembled at the Bajaj Auto plant in Akurdi (near Pune). It weighs 216 kg and has a fuel tank capacity of 21 litres.
