This funky-looking mini-SUV is the new Jeep Renegade, the American brand’s surprise entry to the B-segment SUV market. Sadly, Jeep India is not expected to launch the Renegade in India anytime soon; rather a new bigger SUV codenamed Jeep 551 also known as C Jeep.
The Italian-built Renegade is based on Fiat’s Small Wide platform that also underpins the Fiat 500L. The test-mule here was likely imported for testing the platform under Indian conditions, which will underpin the Jeep 551 SUV that will be produced and sold in India and Brazil as its primary locations. Yet another mid-size crossover will be derived-out from this platform codenamed Jeep 556, also known as B Jeep.
When commenced manufacturing in India in second half of 2017 or first half of 2018, the bigger SUV Jeep 551 (C Jeep) will compete with the likes of Skoda Yeti, SsangYong Rexton, Honda CR-V and the Hyundai Santa Fe. While the mid-size crossover Jeep 556 (B Jeep) will rival the likes of the Ford EcoSport and Hyundai Creta.
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, the parent company of Fiat and Jeep recently announced their 1,782 Crore investment at Ranjangaon plant to build infrastructure for new Jeeps.
