Made-in-India Ford Ecosport recalled in Australia

The ‘Made-in-India’ tag has been dented in the auto sector. A week after the India-made Renault Duster’s recalled in UK, Made-in-India Ford EcoSport too has been recalled in Australia. While the Duster has been recalled for the corrosion issues, EcoSport is now recalled to rectify a potential wiring problem.

Ford Australia has now recalled 2,804 units of India-made Ford EcoSport to fix a potential problem with the wiring harness connecting the curtain airbags, seatbelt pretensioner and side impact sensor. The company Ford has recalled EcoSports produced between June 15, 2013 and August 26, 2014, sighting some issue where the side airbags may not deploy properly in an event of a collision.

Another issue related to the recall of Ford cars, Ford Australia has extended warranties on 50,000 units of the EcoSport, Fiesta and Focus models (to 5-years). The 6-speed DCT that comes equipped on these vehicles is likely to suffer from excessive clutch shudder during light acceleration. The company offers the same automatic gearbox on the Indian EcoSport as well.

In India, the top-end variants of the Ford EcoSport Titanium AT and Titanium (o) variants come equipped with curtain airbags and the 6-speed AT PowerShift, but as of now Ford India has not announced a recall in our country.
