Compact SUV’s are selling like never before. The trend which started with the launch of the Renault Duster has now gown many times over and almost all the mass market automobile producers are scrambling to launch their own compact SUV. Ford has already given us the Ecosport and Nissan has given us the Terrano, many others like Hyundai, Maruti Suzuki and Honda have already showcased the concept for their compact SUV contender, but have not yet launched their product.

Last year, Honda Siel Cars India confirmed their plans to launch an all-new compact SUV in India and just a few months after that, Honda revealed the Vezel concept, and almost immediately, all the media houses in India were abuzz with reports that Honda would develop the Vezel for the Indian Market and it would be launched in India as soon as possible, but that did not really happen as Honda officially confirmed that the Vezel was not their compact SUV for India, but it would be an all-new SUV developed on the Brio platform.

Since that announcement was made, everyone watched happenings in the automobile industry with a keen interest towards the compact SUV from Honda. At the 2014 Indian Auto Expo, Honda Showcased a futuristic concept named Vision XS-1, and now this concept of a compact SUV drew everyone’s attention but there was no word from Honda about this for more than a year and the excitement for the Honda compact SUV almost died out, but here is a piece of news that will definitely get our hopes up again.

Import data taken from a website reveals a special consignment imported by Honda Siel Cars India. The data reveals that three units of the Brio SUV have been imported from Thailand and brought straight to New Delhi as Air Cargo. The import data clearly reveals that this is the Brio SUV and also given in the description of the cargo is, ‘2SJ’, indicating that the code name for the car could during testing could be ‘2SJ’ before an official name comes out for the production ready model.

The shipping data also reveals a CVT Transmission being imported from Indonesia and the description for this shipment says, ‘Brio SUV 1.5L 2wd’! This very clearly indicates that a CVT transmission might find its way into the Brio based Compact SUV. The 1.5L indicates that the CVT box is for a 1.5 liter engine powered Brio SUV, but we aren’t sure if it is the petrol or the diesel in question here because Honda has both, a 1.5 liter i-Vtec petrol and also a 1.5 liter i-Dtec diesel engine on offer in India right now and we are very sure that these two engines will be powering the upcoming Compact SUV as well.

The import data reveals that the value of the import is around Rs. 4.5 lakhs. If Honda designs and develops this SUV right, and then launches it at a price bracket somewhere near the Rs. 5.5 lakh mark, then we already have a vision of the competition fading away into oblivion.
