Hero Splendor Pro Classic Café Racer launched in India, from Rs. 53,900/-

Hero Motocorp had shocked the world when they revealed the Splendor Pro Classic at the Auto Expo held in Delhi earlier this-year. The Splendor Pro Classic was the first Café Racer styled motorcycle from Hero which is usually known for its rugged low-capacity motorcycles which return a gazillion kilometres to every litre of petrol, and this led to Hero receiving a mixed reaction from the general public regarding the Splendor Pro Classic.

Everyone knew that hero had gone out of the box with this one so that they can have something attractive to display at the Auto Expo and it was anybody’s guess that Hero would not put the Splendor Pro Classic into production, but just as they shocked everyone by displaying that motorcycle, they have once again shocked us all by announcing that the Splendor Pro Classic will be put into production. Yes, you heard right! Hero Motocorp has now silently launched the Splendor Pro Classic in India at a price tag of Rs 53,900 (on-road, Delhi). Although the company hasn’t enlisted on the official website, the lot of motorcycles have already started reaching the Hero dealerships throughout the country.

Hero has gone all retro with the design language and has given the Splendor Pro Classic the good ol’ Café Racer style design with chrome bits everywhere. The headlamp has a chrome surround, the instrument cluster too has chrome lining, the front and rear fenders, the round rear view mirrors housing and the rear suspension too are all chrome. The display motorcycle at the Auto Expo was a single seater variant with a cowl replacing the rear seat, but Hero will be providing a rear seat in the options list, as most of the consumers who would purchase this motorcycle would want to carry around a pillion rider at the back.

The Royal Enfield Continental GT was the only Café Racer motorcycle currently in production in the Indian market and is now being joined by the Splendor Pro Classic, even though both of them are miles apart when it comes to performance and engineering. The 535cc Royal Enfield Continental GT was engineered to be a Café Racer, whereas the Splendor Pro Classic is actually a Splendor Pro with a Café Racer’s clothes on! It will still be as slow as the regular splendor’s because it is powered by  the same air-cooled, 100cc, single cylinder engine with a max power output of 7.7 BHP and a max torque output of 8.4 NM.

At a price point of Rs. 53,900/- (on-road, Delhi), the new Splendor Pro Classic becomes the world’s cheapest Café Racer, while its Rs. 4000/- more expensive than the Splendor+ and Rs. 1000/- costlier than the Splendor Pro. Considering the high appeal of Café Racers with the reliability & frugality that comes associated with Splendor, its a best-buy.
