Hero MotoCorp joins hand with Engines Engineering

The world’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer, Hero MotoCorp Ltd (HMCL) today announced yet another global partnership with renowned Italian two-wheeler design firm Engines Engineering. The latter is well-known in Indian circles, having being associated with Mahindra 2 wheelers for development of their first motorcycle, the Stallio. Mahindra which had a stake in the company recently sold it. Engines Engineering will be instrumental in imparting technological know-how in terms of superior designing for the future motorcycles from HMCL’s stables.

The tie-up with Engines Engineering comes close on the heels of HMCL’s two strategic alliances forged earlier this year – one with the US-based Erik Buell Racing (EBR) for cutting-edge technological know-how and the other with Austria-based AVL to build its internal capabilities for engine development. Meanwhile, Hero MotoCorp is set to complete the process of brand migration of its models from the erstwhile joint brand to the “Hero” brand by the end of this month.

Set-up in 1979, Engines Engineering has grown to become Europe’s No.1 end-to-end motorcycle designer. From conception and design right down to styling, on line assembly, industrialization, and marketing, every step is closely followed by the firm. The other Indian players are also ramping up their R&D capabilities in different ways. While Bajaj Auto benefits from Austrian bike maker KTM, where it is a part owner, TVS Motor is in talks with BMW Motorrad for a possible engineering alliance.

Announcing this here today, Mr. Pawan Munjal, Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer, HMCL, said –

“I am happy to have Engines Engineering come on board as a strategic partner in our relentless pursuit of bringing revolutionary two-wheelers to our customers. I am sure the partnership with Engines Engineering, along with our other technology alliances, will result in offering cutting-edge technology and visionary styling in all our future products. I see this as a long-term partnership and there is immense scope to expand this alliance as we go along. This is also in keeping with my vision of having multiple centres of excellence located strategically across the globe. Our intent is to create a constellation of design excellence centres across the world with their specific skill-sets so that our customers across international markets benefit from the latest, the most customer-friendly and cutting-edge designs.”
