The Ford EcoSport is one the most hotly anticipated launches of the year and with the spyshots of the car reaching the interweb almost daily, a launch is definitely on the cards. The car will come in the sub-4-metre length bracket and will get that 12 percent tax exemption from the Indian government. So what makes the launch all the more interesting is that it would be priced quite competitively and a news has emerged regarding the same as well.
Mr. Hormazd Sorabjee, the Editor of AutoCarIndia has gone on record to state that Ford will pe pricing the car at a sub-Rs.6 lakh pricetag. And this shocking price tag will be for the base model of the petrol powered Compact SUV and it is expected to hit the roads in March 2013. This customer friendly price tag comes as a result of the company’s efforts in the field of localisation of the parts of the car.
Coming back to the sub Rs 6 lakh price, the price might as well be around the Rs 5 lakh mark as well. The car’s ex-showroom price could be in the range of Rs 5-6 lakh. Seeing that its nearest competition, the Quanto in diesel guise costs around Rs 6 lakh for the base model, Ford might just price the car in the Rs 5-5.5 lakh bracket for the petrol guise and bring the diesel powered car at a later stage in the Rs 6-6.5 lakh bracket for the base model.
But we should not really forget the fact that it will be the introductory pricing and the car’s prices will surely go up in future once the sales momentum gets going. The EcoSport in petrol as well as diesel trims could be accepted by the Indians very well if it comes at a price of a premium hatchback. The car has more plus points in its favor rather than negatives and if Ford plays the price card well, we could very well see a lot of EcoSports on our roads.
