Firstlook – 2013 Land Rover Range Rover revealed

Following the leak a couple of days before, Land Rover has officially revealed the first images of the new 2013 Range Rover. The new 2013 Range Rover is now said to be more capable, lighter, stronger than ever before. And it is set to make its public debut at the Paris motor show in a month’s time before going on sale early next year.

Big news here is that the 2013 Range Rover has been designed and engineered on an all-aluminum unibody structure that is 39 percent lighter than the outgoing steel body. The company says that the new Range Rover is 420kg lighter as compared to the outgoing model. This will bring unprecedented benefits in fuel economy, emissions, performance and agility.

On the inside, the new 2013 Range Rover receives a bunch of upgrades and over 4.7 inches more legroom than the outgoing model. Rear passengers will also get a two-place rear seat package.  Noise levels inside the cabin are also claimed to have been reduced due to the use of acoustic lamination on the side door glass and windscreen.

The new Range Rover will be available with the 3.0-litre V6 (which has been a staple in the Discovery for years) and the 4.4-litre V8 diesel engines and the petrol will be the existing 5.0-litre supercharged V8 engine. Also, the transmission will be the ZF, and is most likely to be the new eight-speed one, that we have seen on the 2.2-litre XF. There will be no manual gearbox option.

“The new Range Rover preserves the essential, unique character of the vehicle – that special blend of luxury, performance and unmatched all-terrain capability,” said John Edwards, Land Rover Global Brand Director. “However, its clean sheet design and revolutionary lightweight construction have enabled us to transform the experience for luxury vehicle customers, with a step change in comfort, refinement and handling.”

The new model becomes the world’s first aluminium monocoque SUV, utilising techniques already developed for the aluminium XK and XJ of sister brand Jaguar. In future, almost all of Jaguar Land Rover’s higher-value models are likely to be made this way.
