Firstlook – 2012 Maruti Ritz facelift revealed in Japan

2012 Maruti Ritz Facelift

We already know the largest Indian car maker Maruti Suzuki is gearing up to give Maruti Ritz hatchback a revamped look. Now the revamped version on the Ritz is already being showcased on Suzuki’s Japanese site as the Suzuki Splash hatchback and is expected to go on sale in Japan from the middle of this year. But in India we can expect it much earlier!

From the images, the new Ritz will feature a slightly-altered front fascia starting with a more prominent chin, an updated Audi-esque grille, restyled fog-lamp housing and bonnet as we said earlier. Apart from this now it is evident, the rear bumper also sees a change with sporty slats and a new bumper. Another visible change is the tailgate of the new car now coming with a flat design instead of the curved profile in the current Ritz.

On the inside, the car will have a lot of addition to the features and comfort chart including new theme and an upgraded quality of materials inside. However, material quality is something that could change as Maruti Suzuki has been demonstrating in most of its new cars like the new Swift and new Dzire and this is something that the new Ritz could also feature. At this moment there are no much details about Interior on new Maruti Ritz. Considering the changes in the exterior, we think the changes will be very minimal.

Under the modified bonnet hood, the petrol K-series engine is expected to get variable valve timing (VVT) technology on the new Ritz. The VVT is already present in the new Swift which uses the same engine as the Ritz and the 1.3 DDiS diesel mill in its more fuel efficient state of tune should finally make it to the Ritz. The new petrol 1.2 litre K-series with VVT delivers peak torque of 114 Nm @ 4000 rpm and power of 87 ps @ 6000 rpm. The 1.3 litre DDiS engine delivers top torque of 190 Nm @2000 rpm and power of 75 ps @ 4000 rpm. The petrol is expected to give a mileage of 18.6kmpl and the diesel, 22.9kmpl.

What I feel? The New Ritz still lacks the funky looks of Chevrolet Beat but the broad sales and service network will definitely bring lots of customers. The price of new Ritz is not known at this moment, there could be an upward revision of prices.

So Maruti Suzuki can we expect to launch this car in India too very soon?

Tata Motors has launched a refresh version of its popular MUV Sumo, called Sumo Gold. The Sumo Gold gets a slightly updated look and new powertrains. The company unveiled the facelift of the Sumo in Pune and has offered the utility vehicle with two engines – the CR4 diesel and the TCIC diesel. The two engine options are a BS-4 compliant CR4 Turbo motor that churns out 84bhp and 25.5kgm of torque and, according to Tata, delivers a fuel economy of 14.7kpl. Exterior styling tweaks include a mildly tweaked front grille, headlamps and fog-lamps while the interior gets a leather-wrapped steering wheel and updated switches for HVAC and power windows. On the rear, the bumper is new and so are reflectors on the bumper. The Tata Sumo comes with an outstanding 36 month, 100,000 kilometer warranty for non commercial buyers while cabbies get a 2 year, 75,000 km warranty.
