Fiat may bring Chrysler, Alfa Romeo and Jeep in India

Chrysler 300 SRT8

Italian automaker Fiat now owns American car brand Chrysler and its assorted sub brands like Dodge and Jeep. Globally Fiat is a huge brand purveying labels like Alfa Romeo, Ferrari and Maserati apart from its own brand of cars. In India though, the story is a lot different with Fiat being a fringe player of sorts, supplying more engines to a whole lot of Indian car makers than selling its cars. Now, there’s a new report emerging that Fiat will want to expand its footprint in India by bringing some of its better known brands to the country.

New Jeep Grand Cherokee

Jeep and Chrysler’s range of SUVs and cars are the most likely entrants to the Indian market according to the report. Apparently, Jeep will spearhead Fiat’s entry into the attractive luxury SUV segment in the Indian market while Chrysler will be positioned in the high end luxury car space. The report even goes on to add that Chrysler cars could be assembled in India through the completely knocked down (CKD). That is quite surprising as Chrysler has almost nonexistent brand recognition in a country like India where the German luxury brands are much better known than say the American or Japanese luxury labels.

Alfa Romeo Giulietta

Amongst other things, the report also mentions that Alfa Romeo and Maserati being lined up for an Indian launch. Maserati though, has already been launched in India with three of its cars being available for import. All three Maseratis will arrive into India in CBU guise. However, Alfa Romeo remains another speculation at this point in time although the report claims a CBU route for the Alfa Romeo as well, quite plausibly so. Fiat India, for now has chosen to keep mum about this development and so has the spokesperson representing Chrysler. That simply means, it takes this news with a fistful of salt.
