Nissan Terrano official sketch

Here are the first officially released sketches of the upcoming Nissan compact SUV based on Duster, the Terrano. Although so far no spy picture of Nissan Terrano has been reported, it is speculated to be in the final stages of development and might hit production soon in the coming months. As we reported, don’t expect Nissan Terrano to be badge-engineered like Scala and Pulse.

Instead, the Terrano will come with more significant exterior changes and will see changes to the sheet metal. It will come with a re-styled front & rear bumpers, headlights, tail-lights and repositioned license plate housing at rear. But the interiors will be identical as part of cost-cutting, the only difference will be the Nissan logo pasted on the steering wheel.

Unlike current Nissan line-up in India, the Terrano will be priced higher than the donor Renault Duster. Recently Nissan India revealed a sketch of the new model Terrano, which is planned to launch in the 2013 financial year. The Terrano will be produced at Nissan’s Oragadam Plant alongside other Nissan vehicles, expanding Nissan’s locally-built model range to four.

President and CEO of Nissan Motor India Pvt. Ltd, Kenichiro Yomura, said Terrano will play a key role in increasing sales within the Indian market: “I am delighted to reveal both the name and the very first image of what will be a very important model for Nissan.”

“You can see from the sketch that Terrano has a bold and distinctive design that I am confident will appeal to our growing customer base in India, as will its driving performance and range of other features that will be revealed at a later date.”

Team Mahindra Adventure emerged victorious at the ‘Mahindra Adventure Rally of Maharashtra 2013′ with Gaurav Gill & Musa Sheriff being the quickest and also winning the prestigious ‘Star of Nasik’ title.

Mahindra’s cheetah inspired XUV500 triumphed for the second time in a row, as Team Mahindra Adventure, won the ‘Rally of Maharashtra’, round – 2 of the Indian National Rally Championship (INRC). After winning top positions in the INSUVRC (Indian National SUV Rally Championship) class of the South India Rally, the team blazed the trails at Nasik and finished fastest yet again.

Mahindra is the first ever manufacturing company led entry into the INRC, and is also the first manufacturer to sponsor a round of the championship. The highlights of Team Mahindra Adventure’s triumph, was the spectacular performance of the Super XUV500 and the determination exuded by its driver, Gaurav Gill and co-driver, Musa Sheriff. The rally prepared vehicle, along with its driver, proved unbeatable and won the INSUVRC class and also finished fastest among all categories to win the ‘Star of Nasik’ title.

Contrary to popular belief that diesel cars are not as powerful as petrol cars, the Super XUV 500 accepted no limits and has emerged victorious twice in a row.

Speaking on the victory, Vivek Nayer, Chief Marketing Officer, Automotive Division, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. said, “This spectacular victory by Super XUV500 is a testimony to the tough and rugged performance DNA of Mahindra vehicles.  We were pitted against vehicles which are  petrol driven but emerged undefeated for the second time in a row! We are proud to have been adjudged fastest in both the rounds of the INRC – in the South & in the West – as well as having won the INSUVRC class in both rallies.”

About Mahindra Adventure Rally of Maharashtra -

The Rally of Maharashtra has been in the motor sports calendar for 13 years now and is the only tarmac rally in the country. Organised by Western India Sports Association (WISA) under the aegis of FMSCI, the ‘Mahindra Adventure Rally of Maharashtra’ was the 2nd round of the INRC. The stages were run between Sinnar and Bhandardara area of Nagar District, in Maharashtra. Sinnar is an industrial area, 30 km from Nashik on the Nashik- Pune road.

There were 3 stages in the event, repeated twice on Leg 1, Saturday, June 8th, and once on Sunday, June 9th. SS 1 (Alpha) was 14 km, SS 2 (Beta) was 16 km and SS 3 (Gamma) was 7 km. A Super Special Stage was held at Dadasaheb Phalake Smarak, on the Mumbai- Agra road, 3 km away from the rally HQ.

Ssangyong’s Rodius MPV – FrontView

Recently the 11-seater Rodius was spotted in India and it was none other than the Mahindra campus in Kandivali.
The European version of Rodius was showcased at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show.

The car spotted in Mumbai was without any camouflage flaunting its mighty shape and size. With four rows and ample cabin space, this car can be a good companion for long road trips. The car is powered by a 2.0-litre e-XDi200 LET (Low End Torque) diesel engine that produces 155bhp of power and a torque of 360Nm. The car is available in 6-speed manual transmission or a 5-speed automatic unit from Mercedes. The power is transmitted to all wheels via an electronic 4WD system. The Rodius is also equipped with safety features like ESP (electronic stability control), ARP (Anti Rollover Protection) and BAS (Brake Assist System).

The 11-seater MUV could be Mahindra’s answer to the Force Traveller or the Tata Winger, although Mahindra has not yet revealed any plans of launching the Rodius, but there are not many reason why it should not.

European-spec 2014 Toyota Corolla – FrontView

Toyota Corolla is indeed of the most popular luxury cars, not just in India but globally. The car has topped the best seller charts and has maintained at the top position for a long time. It’s this reputation that Toyota keeps enhancing this car, and now Toyota will roll out the 11th edition of the Corolla since its first model launched in 1966.

The Corolla has always been targeted at the luxury car market and had the best in class features to meet the buyer needs in that segment. But there is a shift in the pattern, and luxury car buyers have now expecting a sporty look from even from their luxury cars, most of them being young buyers. Toyota has considered this change in trend and has put the best of their efforts to tailor the Corolla to the likes of the modern young buyers.

Toyota has completely revamped the exterior of the car to give it a sporty look, the integration of the headlamps, grill and the bumper give the car a sharp look. The sharp body lines and the tail lamps extended to the boot lid carry the sportiness around the car. Also a noticeable change is the elongated wheelbase which makes this one 100mm longer than the earlier edition, 75mm of which is added to the rear leg room.

The interior have also gone through a lot of changes, the 2014 Toyota will get a dual tone color combination, and will also have different color accents to match the color theme. The instrument cluster is divided in three sections with a chrome finish. The dashboard is also revamped, and is equipped with a new touch screen panel, that doubles as a screen for the parking assistance, engine start/stop button and the climate control button are arranged in a way to give a spacious feeling.

Although not many changes expect for minor tweaks have been made to the engine, which means the new Corolla will powered by the same, 1.8-litre petrol and the 1.4-litre diesel engine. The transmission will also be the same as existing 6-speed manual and the Super CVT-i with 7-speed sequential shiftmatic transmission.

The new Corolla is expected to be launched in the first half of 2014, and can be priced above the existing models, but keeping in the price band of other manufacturers in the same segment.

2015 Ford Endeavour SUV prototype – FrontView

After the launch of the much anticipated Ford Ecosport that is just days away, Ford has pre-planned to bring an updated version of Ford Endeavour to the Indian market which is expected to be launched in 2015. According to the reports from CarsGuide, Ford has recently announced that it will halt the production of cars in Australia but will continue to work on both production and concept cars for global markets.

The 2015 Ford Endeavour known as Everest in other Asian regions would be an updated seven-seat Endeavour which would begin its development next-year in Thailand. Mr. Jackson Emiris, one of the readers of CarsGuide has managed to click the next generation Ford Endeavour (Everest) which was recently spotted testing on roads. As per the images obtained the prototype is fitted with Ranger’s body shell up to the driver door while the rest of the body parts are donated by the Territory. However these body parts may not be present as the actual design of the final product which is fit for production.

Apart from this, the 2015 Ford Endeavour is expected to be powered with a 3.5-litre ‘Puma’ diesel engine which provides a maximum power of 225 Bhp at a maximum torque of 420 Nm. Ford Endeavour would be equipped with a short wheel base than the Ranger in order to ensure off-road clearance and handling, that the current-version is lagging.

Firstever snaps of Next-Gen 2014 Hyundai i20 hatchback spotted in India

Already enough pictures have being uploaded over the web about the much expected new Next generation Hyundai i10. However the Next Gen Hyundai i10 is expected to launch at the Frankfurt Auto show later this September. Along with this Hyundai is also working on the Next Generation Hyundai i20 whose spy shots are already available thanks to one of the readers of Team-BHP and Auto Car India respectively.

As clear seen in the spy shots, the car had been spotted in Tamilnadu which already has a Hyundai factory and is a particular place where most of the testing of Hyundai cars is concentrated. Hyundai i20 initially launched in the International markets back in 2008 obtained decent sales in the Indian market and also had a facelift last year. Hyundai i20 is being designed by using the new Fluidic design concept and is expected to be bigger than the current i20.

Coming to the specifications, Hyundai i20 is expected to be featured with push button start, a reverse camera, automatic day and night rear view mirrors, automatic headlights, rain sensing wipers and much more in the list. Hyundai i20 measuring 3995 mm in length just falls 5 mm short from the reaching the sub 4 meter category due to which it has been exempted from higher excise duty as per the recent budget. The rear of Next Gen Hyundai i20 had been well wrapped by the camouflage making it very difficult to look at the style and dimensions at the rear. Next Gen i20 is expected to be more spacious and also to have stylish interiors.

Mysterious V-Twin Cruisers caught testing in India

The two wheeler segment in India has recently seen a large development in terms of higher capacity engines, better than the best technology, and most importantly price. Also it’s not just the existing two manufacturers but also new companies have now started to sail to the Indian shores, and not just that, some of also launched their global products first in India. Harley Davidson is one such brand, very well-known and respected by many although owned by a handful of Indians, considering the premium price tag. But now Harley Davidson is gearing up to bring a change to its line-up. Some Harley Davidson bikes were caught testing in the NCR area. These certainly were Harley’s with small displacement engine, maybe 500cc V-twin.

There are also rumors of these bike being completely developed and manufactured in India, by doing this Harley can introduce bikes made specifically made for India at competitive prices. These bikes may fit into the 3-3.5 lakh bracket, which is a neat price, and will certainly attract more buyers in India. Although there is no confirmation on this from the company, but there are not reasons why not, especially when the company is been heavily investing in the assembly in India. Not just this, but Harley can layer also export these bikes to other emerging markets. There are chances that these bikes get showcased at the 2014 AutoExpo. For many of us, this could be a dream come true, and a fantastic reason to start saving money for.

Datsun to open its doors for the world in India on 15th July

Nissan has been working on launching its low cost car brand Datsun in India for about a year now and finally it’s time for the curtain raiser. On 15th of July Datsun will open its doors for the world in Gurgaon, India. And as the invite says “When you posses the power of Dreams, Access and Trust, a generation shall rise to bring a new dawn and a bright future” the products under the Datsun brand will be low priced vehicles targeted to small car buyers that will fit into their buyers. Datsun will officially announce its products which so far have been under development.

Nissan has been working on 3 products to be introduced under the Datsun brand, the first one being a mid size sedan based on the Lada Granta, a Nissan i2 and K2 hatchbacks. The K2 will be based on the first edition of Micra and will fit into the range of 3-4 lakhs, with the i2 to be priced as low as 2-3 lakhs. Clearly Nissan plans to attack the existing small cars the Alto 800, Hyundai Eon and the Hyundai i10.

Nissan has already been manufacturing the Micra in India and is supplied across the globe. The same may also be true for the Datsun brand cars, which will be exported to emerging markets like Africa and other parts of the world. So far Nissan has been doing the branding of the Datsun, and it is not clear weather if Nissan will also take care of the sales and the after sales support for Datsun.

Chevrolet’s compact version of Enjoy MPV rendered by Team-Bhpian named JayPrashanth

General Motors have been in the Indian market for quite some time now, and has been doing really well in the SUV segment with its Chevrolet Tavera, although its sedans and the hatchback couldn’t create the same rapo with the buyers, but at least it didn’t bring Chevrolet in an awkward position. Recently Chevrolet introduced its latest edition in the SUV segment the Enjoy, and there is already news that a sub 4-meter version of the Enjoy is in the works and may be rolled out in 2015.

Making a compact version of an existing vehicle is quite a trend nowadays in the Indian MUV segment, major vehicle manufacturers like Mahindra, Ford and Maruti have already introduced a chopped down version of their existing line-up and are doing quite good. A mini version has its own advantages, since the manufacturers do not need to go through the entire R&D cycle to introduce a new vehicle and also being in the sub-4-meter category they enjoy the exemption in duty, which brings down the cost of the vehicle considerably.

The mini Enjoy will have to be chopped from the back, which may means this version will not have any seats at the rear, making it a 5-seater, also the existing 1.4-litre petrol engine will be replaced by a 1.2-litre engine which can produce a power of 85bhp which is currently used in the Chevy Sail. The loss of power will be compensated by lesser weight compared to the 7-seater version. Lesser power also means a better fuel efficiency, which one of the top cards in the Indian vehicle market. Also since the MUV will fall into the sub 4-meter category it can be expected to be priced Rs. 40,000 lesser than the current model.

The mini Enjoy, might just be the product that can bring the kind of attention Chevy planned from the Indian buyer, and who knows this might also bring attention of the buyers to the other products under the GM brand.

2013 Piaggio Vespa VX125 – FrontView

Italian two-wheeler manufacturer, Piaggio India has just unveiled a new variant of its only two wheeler offering in the Indian two wheeler market, the Vespa VX125 automatic scooter. Although the scooter looks the same at first glimpse, it comes equipped with the new set of features on that reflects what’s available on the international-spec Vespa LX125.

Compared to the LX125, the VX125 gets two new colour option, Bright Pink and Turquoise Green. On the other hand, the company has withdrawn the black and maroon colour options for the Vespa, having not found much favour with customers. Other changes include a longer pillion grab rail, MRF NyloGrip Zapper tubeless tyres and a much needed 200mm front disc brake.

Futhermore, the VX also gets revised instruments with a black dial and customers have the option of choosing a beige-coloured seat. No mechanical changes are incorporated on the Vespa through the VX125 variant. A monocoque chassis and single-sided suspension are the other bits carried over.

In India, the new variant of Vespa VX125 will sit above the LX125 model in terms of price and positioning. While prices are yet to be announced, the latest Vespa VX125 will be available in dealers across the nation by 20th June 2013, at no more than a slight premium over the LX125 which we expect to be around Rs. 2500.

 
Refresher – The Vespa 125 VX is powered by a same 125cc engine which produces 10.06 PS of power @ 7500 RPM and 10.06 NM of torque @ 6000 RPM. It will take you around 10 seconds to reach 60kmph from standstill and touches a top speed of 90kmph. As far as mileage is concerned, it will give you around 40-42 kmpl in city conditions which will increase on long runs.

As scheduled, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) today launched an all-new variant of Activa, christened as ‘Activa-i’. Although we expected Honda to launch a flagship variant in Honda scooters line-up with 125cc engine, the final product turned-out to be a low-end variant of Activa and comes powered by the same 109.2cc engine that also power the Activa, Aviator and Dio.

This is another important move taken by HMSI, to conquer more share in the market. As India is a price oriented market, seems like Honda has studied the market clearly, that quality product priced at a cheaper rate booms in the market. Thus, the company introduced commuter bike ‘Dream Neo’ and now the most affordable scooter ‘Activa-i’, which Honda calls the ‘personal compact scooter’.

These launches are a part of Honda India’s ambitious goal, to launch four new products in the country every year to become the biggest two wheeler manufacturer in India by 2020. In 2013, the company has already launched Honda CB Trigger 150cc, Dream Neo 110cc motorcycle and Activa-i compact scooter. One more launch this-year remains is a mystery two-wheeler as of now.

Coming back to Activa-i, although its priced affordable it comes with some best in class features like Combi Brake System (CBS) reducing the braking distance by 24 per cent, tubeless tyres, maintenance free battery, viscous air filter, and a storage space of 18 litres. Honda Activa-i’s lean and compact design and 103kgs of weight make it easy to handle in traffic, should appeal to the fairer sex.

The Activa-i uses the tried and tested 110cc 8PS mill from the Activa HET and Honda claims similar 60kmpl fuel efficiency. Honda India has priced the Activa-i Rs. 44200 (ex-showroom New Delhi), which is very reasonable considering the amount of features it offers and on-road it costs Rs. 48650. That’s Rs 3000 lower than the standard model Activa today.

“As a leader in the automatic scooters segment, Honda’s entry into the personal compact segment with Activa-i is its next strategic step towards reinforcing its market leadership.” said HMSI president and CEO Keita Muramatsu. Honda plans to sell 1 lakh units of the Activa-i this fiscal and is targeting working people aged between 25-30 years. The Activa-i will be on-sale in dealerships across the country by end of this-month.

Mangalore Auto Expo 2013

City on Wheels Auto Expo organized in Mangalore was unlike other Auto Expos organized till date in other parts of India such as Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi and so on. Although it was not as large as the other Auto Expos across the country with more vehicles on display, City on Wheels Auto expo had managed to be the largest Auto Expo in South India. This Auto expo took place in one of the biggest grounds in Mangalore named Nehru Maidan and was inaugurated by Gulshan Grover on 7^th June (Friday) who is popularly known as the ‘Bad Man’ of Bollywood.

The people of Mangalore experienced such an Auto expo only thanks to Aura Cine Vista Pvt Ltd (ACVPL) and Dream Craft Creations, Mumbai which was presented by Corporation Bank and powered by Red Bricks. Although initially people in Mangalore had thought that it would be similar to the other small Auto Expos which had already taken place in Mangalore in the past, but later after inauguration they were astonished to see the other world renowned brands such as Range Rover, Jaguar, Skoda, Renault, Toyota, BMW, Audi, Mini Cooper, Volvo, Tata, Maruti Suzuki and Volkswagen.

Mr. Gulshan Grover said that “The big brands of cars in the auto expo show that Mangalore has the potentiality to afford them as well as the standard of living has become better and so also Mangalore’s image”. Unlike other Auto Expos, City on Wheels Auto Expo did not have any entry fees. As soon as we entered the large tent that accumulated all the luxurious world renowned cars, our eyes caught the looks of the 2.2-litre SD4 Range Rover Evoque which was bluish in color and powered with a huge 2179 cc engine. As we approached the Range Rover Evoque we saw the stylish black Jaguar XF standing besides the Range Rover.

After experiencing the features of these two biggies we then went on where we saw the all new Skoda Laura, Renault Fluence, and Renault Duster after which we had to halt our proceeding as soon as we saw the new BMW X1 which had a black Rafter at the top of it signifying that the BMW X1 was meant for adventurous journeys. There was also a display of key chains from the different brands whose prices ranged between 1700 to 4500 INR.

As we discussed about the cars already seen in the previous line-up we got a priceless glimpse of small kids who were eagerly admiring the two small bicycles and 4-wheeler toddlers on display from BMW. Moving on we captured pics of the BMW 5-Series which had wonderful interiors along with a sleek and stylish exteriors. Later we saw the Mini Cooper and the Mini Country Man which had some of the interiors identical signifying the traditional old style being maintained in these two vehicles.

After all these range of cars seen, there was finally a 650cc motorcycle from BMW which was in fact the only one motorcycle in the entire Auto Expo. Apart from the luxurious cars, City on Wheels Auto expo had also showcased the all new Fiat Punto 2013, Fiat Linea 2013, Limited Edition of Maruti Swift, Anniversary Edition of Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Tata Safari Storme, and the all new Tata Indica Vista D90 which had new set of spoilers and side skirts in place and the Volkswagen Polo SR.

As all companies have their flagship product, the star of the Auto expo was the all-new Audi R8 which was red in color and whose ground clearance was just about few inches from the ground. This luxurious expensive car owned by a Mangalorean is the first 2013 Audi R8 in South India. All the people were disappointed since they did not get a chance to have a seat in this monster since it was already owned by someone when compared to all the other cars in display. Ending our journey in the Auto expo we got to see the SUV Volvo XC60 and the compact Sedan Volvo S60. Mr. Grover concluded by saying that “A trader will come to a city only when he sees business growth there, and that Mangalore has all the potentiality for further growth. He also termed people of Mangalore as the best he has come across in his life”.

Suzuki B-king superbike accident in Mangalore

The 28-year-old CEO of Mangalore-based PVS Group, Swarun Raj passed away today in an accident when his imported Suzuki B-King bike collided with a oncoming Tata Indica Vista car near Bejai circle, Mangalore – due to the impact of the accident his bike flung about 20 ft and landed on the divider. As per the source, the superbike was over speeding which hit the car and the case has been registered by Mangalore City Police.

This was the only Suzuki B-king superbike in Mangalore and it’s the first superbike accident reported in the city. This B-king superbike was bought just few months back. It is also learnt that Swarun had already sold his Suzuki B-King bike and was to give it off on Monday. He had gone for one last ride on that ill-fated bike on Sunday evening (today).

A milestone for Automobili Lamborghini: 2,000 Aventadors produced

The Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 achieved an important milestone in its history, with the 2,000th vehicle produced. The Nero Nemesis car, chassis number 2,000, rolled off the assembly line destined for the United States.

Its owner, Thaddeus Arroyo, Chief Intelligence Officer for AT&T, is a highly ranked U.S. executive and a passionate Lamborghini customer, who already owns a Lamborghini Gallardo LP 550-2 Spyder.

Following a test drive of the Aventador LP 700-4 during a Lamborghini event in Palm Beach, he was immediately impressed by the extraordinary performance of the car to the point that he decided to purchase it.

The Sant’ Agata Bolognese plant’s productivity has noticeably increased for the Aventador LP 700-4 compared to the previous flagship model: the Murciélago took four years and a half before the 2,000th example rolled off the assembly line. Launched in 2001, the Murciélago reached the 2,000-vehicle milestone in March 2006. The Aventador has reached this milestone in just over two years, with production currently of nearly five cars per day.

In 2013 the Aventador LP 700-4 Roadster, the most extraordinary open top super sports car, joined the successful coupé. Initial pre-order expectations for this model have been exceeded and the order bank for both versions covers more than one year.

Increasing Number of Auto Dealers in India Foresee a Decline in Profits

One-in-five dealers in India expect to take a financial loss in 2013, more than double the number compared with 2012, and only 44 percent of dealers expect to make a profit for the 2012-2013 financial year, according to the J.D. Power Asia Pacific 2013 India Dealer Satisfaction with Automotive Manufacturers Index (DSWAMI) Study^SM released recently.

“Declining profitability for dealerships in India not only highlights the impact that the slowdown in new-vehicles sales has on the viability of a growing number of dealers, but also underlines the importance placed on automakers to provide adequate support to their respective networks” said Mohit Arora, executive director, J.D. Power Asia Pacific.

Now its third year, the study measures dealer satisfaction with vehicle manufacturers or importers in India and identifies dealer attitudes regarding the automotive retail business. Overall dealer satisfaction is determined by examining nine factors: marketing and sales activities; product; vehicle ordering and delivery; sales team; parts; warranty claims; after-sales team; training; and support from the manufacturer.

The study provides feedback on how dealers view their relationship with automakers, the outlook on their financial viability and identifies areas for improvement. In particular, with the slowdown in India’s GDP growth and decline in new-vehicle sales, the study is able to provide automakers with important information on how best to assist dealers in achieving their overall business objectives.
 
Need to improve the supply chain

In 2013, the largest decline in dealer satisfaction is in parts operations, with notable brand level declines around the prompt delivery of parts and ease of ordering parts.

“This highlights the need for some automakers to further support dealers with an improved and more efficient supply chain,” said Mohit Arora, executive director, J.D. Power Asia Pacific. “Improving the speed of parts delivery not only allows for work orders to be handled more efficiently, but also ensures customers are not troubled by unexpected delays or extended wait times.”
 
Decline in satisfaction with the product lineup

An attractive range of vehicles remains critical for both dealers and automakers to succeed in any market. The study shows a large variance in dealers’opinions on the competitiveness of their brand’s model lineup. On average, 82 percent of dealers indicate their brand provides a model range that can effectively compete in the highly contested Indian auto market. However, fewer than 65 percent of dealers for some of the volume brands indicate the same.

“With changes in customer preferences, the industry needs to adapt by providing a contemporary lineup across the main and niche segments,” said Arora. “The importance for both automakers and dealers in the market is the need to increase customer traffic in the showrooms with an attractive model range.”
 
Dealers must diversify to survive the headwinds

The study finds that it is important for dealers to diversify their revenue base in order to mitigate any sudden decreases in their income and protect their viability during a slowdown in new-vehicle sales.Dealers that increase their share of revenue on after-sales maintenance and repair work—as well as promote other parts of their business, suchas finance and insurance, spare parts and accessoriesand used-vehicles—can better spread their risk.

The study finds that the main revenue sources for dealerships are service (29%), new-vehicle sales (28%) and spare parts (14%).
 
High satisfaction comes from collaboration

Among the manufacturers included in the 2013 study, Maruti Suzuki and Toyota perform particularly well in overall satisfaction. Dealer satisfaction for both manufacturers has improved from 2012.

“The success of Maruti Suzuki and Toyota not only demonstrates the automakers’ commitment to ensuring the dealers’ operations are viable, but it also their active support regarding such areas as training, marketing and sales activities,” said Arora.

On average, 88 percent of dealers believe that they definitely would continue to work with their automaker in two years.  Among dealers in the top quartile of satisfaction, 98 percent expect to be working with the same automaker in 2015.  In contrast, dealers who rate their experience with the automaker in the bottom quartile of satisfaction, only 72 percent expect to be working with the same nameplate in two years’ time.
 
About the Study

The 2013 India Dealer Satisfaction with Automotive Manufacturers Index (DSWAMI) Study^SM is based on responses from 618 dealership general managers or dealer principles across all main nameplates. The study was conducted in association with the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA), and was fielded between February 2013 and April 2013.

Rohan Thakur to be the first Indian to participate in the 2013 Gumball 3000

This year’s Gumball 3000 did certainly have more attention from India as well, considering and Indian driver participating for the first time in the Gumball rally. Rohan Thakur from India was the first ever Indian participating in the rally (Team #85) and drove his Oakley Design LP760 Lamborghini Aventador. There was another Oakley designed Lamborghini driven by Qatar`s Nasser Al-Thani. Both the team got an Audi Q7 with a trailer attached as a support vehicle. There was one more team driving the Aventador, Team 72, but unfortunately the car met an accident on its way to the Stockholm checkpoint.

The 2013 Gumball 3000 started from Copenhagen on the 18th of May and ended on 25th May at Monaco, which also happened to be a F1 weekend. This will be the 15th anniversary of the Gumball 3000 and this year they have a go green theme. The CNI UK has joined the rally to ensure that the cars emission do not have adverse impact on the environment. Participating in the rally were cars like Bugatti veyrons, Ferrari F12, Ferrari 458, Porsche Carrera GT, Mc-Merc SLR 722, Lamborghini Aventador, Jaguar F-Type and many more.
 
(Note – At the event there was Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Roadster with Dubai register plates painted resembling the Indian flag, which is also believed to be owned by a Indian. )

Upcoming Audi Q3 2.0 FWD base variant spotted in Mumbai.

With the increasing demand for luxury cars in the Indian market and to make it more affordable Audi has planned to launch a price cut version of the Audi Q3 which would be the entry-level car from Audi. Already Audi has come up with 3 new cars this year i,e  the all new Audi Q5, the humongous Audi R8 V10 and Audi R8 V10 Plus. Along with these 3 models it has also bought a new version of Audi Q3 which would be the Audi Q3 2.0-litre TFSI. The company has taken this initiative in order to make the Audi Q3 more affordable and the best selling entry-level Audi which would compete the likes of the recently launched BMW 1-Series and the Mercedes Benz’s A and B-Class.

The spy shots captured by AutoCarIndia seems to be the locally assembled Q3, which is expected to be launched by the end of July this year according to the reports provided by Mr. Michael Perschke, Head of Audi India to our friends at Indian Autos Blog. Since the car spotted in the spy shot did not have the Quattro badge in the front grills, it is expected to be the entry-level car Audi Q3.

Coming to the technical specifications, the new entry level Audi Q3 is expected to be featured with the front-wheel-drive system instead of the all-wheel-drive option currently present in the Quattro. Along with this the entry-level Audi Q3 is expected to continue with 2.0-litre Turbo diesel engine which provides a maximum power of 140 Bhp at a maximum torque of 320 Nm. In order to make it feasible to the consumers Audi has already expanded its dealership network at South Mumbai, Lucknow and Bhubaneswar and also plans of dealership coming up in 8 more locations by the end of this year. The base variant of the entry-level Audi Q3 is expected to be 3-4 lakhs cheaper than the base variant of the Audi Q3 2.0 TDI Quattro which is priced around 27.21 lakh INR.

2013 Tata Nano Diesel caught alongside the regular on-sale Nano and you can yourself make out the changes.

Few details of the much anticipated Tata Nano Diesel has already been read in our previous posts at BharathAutos. In order to keep our dear readers updated here are some more details about the diesel version of Tata Nano which is expected to launch in 2014. Like the current petrol variant, the diesel variant is also expected to be the world’s least priced car. The diesel version of Nano would be incorporated with turbocharged diesel engine sourced from Garett which has already been spotted in the Tata Ace Dicor.

From the spy pics available all over the web in one of which the open bonnet clearly specifies that the diesel version of Nano would continue to have spare wheel and fuel filling at the front with engines at the rear as the petrol version. Apart from this the diesel Nano is expected to have a revised bumper in order to accumulate the bulkier diesel engine and also some minor changes than the petrol versions such as the exhaust pipe has been moved to the left from the center. Coming to the technical specifications, this new turbocharged diesel engine would be an 800 cc engine which would provide a maximum power of 40 Bhp at a maximum torque of 51 Nm. The diesel variant is expected to be 50000 Rupees more than its existing petrol version and would also provide a fuel efficiency of 40 Kmpl.

In a move that it surely unique in the automobile category, Hyundai has decided to float viral videos targeting its select models that have a younger TA footprint to begin with. These viral videos are being conceptualised and produced by Innocean Worldwide, their advertising agency. The first such viral to hit the online space is one for the Uber Cool i20. In the opinion of VivekSrivastava, the joint Managing Director of Innocean, “The virals are a thriving mechanism to reach out to the digital class of consumers and have a definitive role in brand’s communication architecture. We believe that Hyundai’s step is in the right direction and will help enhance the buzz around its various brands/models. Our teams endeavour is to roll out never before concepts that hold the surfers’ fancy and make the brand stick via spontaneous sharing.”

This latest video is for Hyundai’s super-hit premium compact i20. It, very smartly, promotes the three latest features of the i20 – automatic headlights, rain sensing wipers and rear view mirror with parking assist. Using a ghost as the main character, the video slowly and innovatively shows how the new features of the i20 perplexes and confuses the spirit, enough to get scared and vanish into thin air. The beauty of the video lies in the conceptualization and its cheeky sense of humour that sustains the attention span. The script has been conceptualised by the creative trio of Allen Charles, George Koshy,Sr CD and SaurabhDasgupta, ECD. The film has been directed by Sameer Tiwari of Working I Films. “The intent is to clearly use a different grammar from the one viewers are used too. It is meant to engage them, spook them and humour them, all in a span of a minute or two,” adds SaurabhDasgupta.

This 2 minute video is being seeded using YOUTUBE and social media – Facebook and Twitter. There is adequate deployment of online tools to bring it on the screens of the uber-cool youngsters. “This is just the start of a series of high engagement initiatives that have been planned for Hyundai and one would see Digital gaining a greater traction in the media strategies of the brand,“ says B Sridhar, Group Director Media Services at Innocean.

2013 Hyosung GT250R – Red

Hyosung has definitely had a tasted the success in India with its current range of bikes. But considering that their smallest offering is the GT250R which is a 249cc engine they are still missing out on a quite larger and fast moving segment and that is the 125cc segment. Considering the trend and the demand Hyosung is planning to launch a bike in the 125cc segment specifically for the Indian market. The joint venture between Hyosung and DSK has been working-out well, and they also seem to keep it going on.

Considering the prospects of the future growth the current assembly unit at Wai will be shifted to Karad where a new factory spreading over 100 acres of land will be set-up. This factory in future will also serve as a manufacturing unit in future rather than just an assembly unit. Currently the Hyosung bikes are brought in as CKD unit which helps Hyosung in keeping the price of their bikes in line with the competition. Once some localisation is done, the price of the bikes can be brought down even further.

Although not much details of the 125cc bike is revealed, but once the bike is successful in India, an export version of the same bike can be a good move.

2013 Hyosung GV250 Aquila

If there is any moving really fast on the Indian two wheeler segment it’s the 250cc bike segment. The latest to join the competition will be the Hyosung. The company launched its bikes through the DSK dealership since last year and has been doing really well, considering the exiting bikes belong to a segment above 500cc.

This kind of response is what gives confidence to the manufacturer which ultimately leads to adding more range to the existing line-up. Hyosung is all set to launch its GV250 cruiser motorcycle in the Indian market. And when we talk about cruiser the GV250 resembles the perfect picture we build in our mind. The bike features a single headlamp, chrome treatment not just limited to handlebars and side panels, but spread across the engine and the exhaust and also the side mirrors and not mention the six spoke alloy wheel. The split seat and the huge fenders give the bike a perfect look of the cruiser.

The bike is powered by a 249cc fuel-injected, oil cooled engine, which produces 28bhp of power at 10,500rpm and a max torque of 22Nm@7500rpm. The power is transmitted to the rear wheel via a 5-speed gearbox. The cruiser is equipped with a front disc brake and a rear drum brake and a telescopic front forks and twin rear shock absorber layout.

The bike will be imported as a CKD kit and will be assembled in India, this will enable Hyosung in keeping the price within the range of other competitors. The exact date of launch and the price are yet to be known, but we can expect the same around end of 2013.

Kawasaki Bajaj Pulsar 200 NS Indonesia

The Bajaj Pulsar a brand that has been there since more than a decade now, but still seems just as fresh. Thanks to the regular updates done to the bike in terms of, styling as well as the technology and not to mention the increase in power as it gets matured. In these years Bajaj as a company has also grown with new partner like KTM and the old ones like Kawasaki.

The latest addition to the Pulsar portfolio in India was the Pulsar 200 NS, which is yesterday launched in Indonesia. The selling and service support will be managed by Kawasaki in Indonesia. Apart from just selling and service of the Bajaj bikes, has previously stated Kawasaki has tweaked the bike to suit the Indonesian market. The Pulsar 200 NS will be exported from Bajaj’s Chakan plant and will be assembled in Indonesia by Kawasaki.

Compared to the Indian version there aren’t many changes done to the bike, apart from handle bars seem more up-market painted in matte black rather than the glossy finish here. Also comes wrapped with a new design decals with the much needed tank pad, which is omitting on the Indian model. Furthermore, on the instrument console Bajaj logo gets replaced with the Kawasaki-Bajaj name, re-positioned front number plate along with tyre pressure and chain slackness information written on the swing arm. Slight difference is also seen in on the ‘RPM LIMIT’ embedded on reserve indicator.

BIn Indonesia, Kawasaki-Bajaj Pulsar 200 NS is priced at 23.3 million Indonesian Rupiah (around Rs. 1.34 lakh). Bajaj MD, Rajiv Bajaj has already expressed his plans to standardize its bikes across the global, which means the changes done to the Indonesian version of the bike might soon reflect in the upcoming Pulsar in India. 2013 Toyota Camry

After the recent launch of Toyota Prius hybrid, the Japanese auto maker Toyota is planning to launch Hybrid versions of their flagship compact Sedan Etios and also Camry in the Indian market. The current Prius being sold by Toyota Kirloskar has been charged with customs duty making it 100% more than its cost. As a result of this Toyota has managed to sell only around 170 units since it was launched back in January 2010.

Mr. Kouji Toyoshima, chief engineer, Toyota Motor Corporation said that “We need to consider hybrid version of Etios going forward or a car for the emerging market. I think the first priority is to reduce the cost of the vehicle and improve efficiency levels, so that the customers in India are willing to choose hybrids as a better affordable alternative for the future.” as per the reports provided by Economic Times.

In order to overcome this, Toyota has planned to launch low cost hybrid cars which would emit lower rate of carbon and provide higher mileage along with a view of increasing the number of hybrid vehicle buyers in the Indian market. However this plan made by Toyota would be implemented only if the Indian government’s National Electric Mobility Mission Plan (NEMMP) 2020 would be set up. According to this plan the government would provide up to Rs. 1.5 lakh subsidy per vehicle. Toyota has managed to sell more than 12 lakh hybrid cars globally which comprises 12 % of their total sales. Along with Etios, Toyota has also considered to introduce hybrid version of Camry in India.

2012 Hyundai Hexa Space Concept – FrontView

Hyundai being the second largest car manufacturer after Maruti Suzuki in India is planning to introduce its range of cars to compete its rivals such as Honda, Maruti Suzuki and Ford in the Indian market. Hyundai has already not obtained decent sales in the first half of this year since the required attention is grabbed by Maruti Swift, Maruti Swift Dzire, Honda Amaze and Ford EcoSport.

In order to compensate this Hyundai has planned to launch 4 new models which would be aimed to compete its rivals and also obtain required decent sales which it has already not obtained in the first half of this year. The first one in the pipeline of launch would be a BA (i15) compact hatchback whose spied pictures were already available a couple of months ago over the web. This i15 compact hatchback expected by September this year would place itself between i10 and i20. This hatchback would come powered by a 1.1-liter CRDI turbo diesel engine that has a maximum output of 75 Bhp at a torque of 150 Nm, the 1.2-liter petrol engine option will also be on-sale to directly compete with the second largest passenger vehicle Maruti Swift which has already marked sales of 18000 units per month.

After this Hyundai plans to launch an entry level sub-4-meter sedan which would compete the likes of India’s third largest passenger vehicle Maruti Swift Dzire, Honda Amaze and Tata Indigo eCS  out of which Swift Dzire has marked sales of around 14000 units per month. Hyundai’s third model in pipeline would be a compact SUV which is under development and has already been unveiled at the concept SUV Hexaspace at the Delhi Auto Show back in 2012 competing the yet another under development model, Maruti Suzuki concept SUV XA Alpha which also had been unveiled in the same Auto Show in Delhi in 2012.

Coming to the last one in the pipeline of launch, Hyundai has plans of launching Multi-purpose vehicle which would compete the likes of Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. However all the 4 models are expected to reach the India roads by the end of 2015.

Garage – Yousuf’s Karizma-R

 
Let me tell you the story that made me choose the Karizma as my street weapon. Since childhood I’m an avid fan of sports cars and bikes, so as the time came for me to choose a bike I went straight ahead for the karizma with no other 2nd thought.

Hero Honda karizma comes with a semi fairing at the front which is first in an Indian bike, later copied to Bajaj Pulsar 220, Honda Stunner and more. Though the engine is not completely covered it has a sporty cowl added for both safety of the engine and good looks. The bike has big and striking dimensions and can accommodate 2 people in sheer comfort. Unlike the Yamaha R15 and TVS Apache that provide cramped seating position for hefty and stout people, Karizma wins my heart in comfortable position for riding.

The main disadvantage of the bike is its rear tyre. It is not a big concern for those who live in posh areas and don’t need to ride tough and muddy roads. The grip is the actual concern. The tyre is not having good grip in the centre of circumference. It makes it to skid on slippery roads and very difficult to lean on curves with such low width tyres.

Another thing is that, it lacks leg guard. It may be a disadvantage for many but not for me at least. I met 3 accidents in these two years riding Karizma and my legs were never severely injured. Infact bike is designed for perfect safety.

Horn that bike is accompanied from showroom is not suitable for bike. So, most of the Karizma riders, prefer to replace it before going for first ride. One more fault which I have seen in many other Karizma’s beside my own that its wisor is never stable and keeps on vibrating at high speeds. The demerits and merits may vary from rider to rider as per likings and disliking but faults would never. And few of them are above which I have analyzed myself.

Tata Sierra – FrontView

In a way Tata, the cynics were right. In 1991, Telco had launched the Tata Sierra and the Estate the next year. Its first shot at the passenger car segment was fraught with problems as both products reeked of Telco’s truck ethos. The crude and flawed ‘bridge products’, the transitional products between trucks and cars, severally dented the company’s reputation. Yet, a little more than 15 years later, Tata Motors is defining the shape of cars to come.

The Sierra was the first passenger car, ”if it can be called that” from Telco, better known for commercial vehicles. The Sierra was a good concept and well suited to Indian conditions of driving. This was the first diesel vehicle to be accepted as a personal car without derogatory connotations associated with diesel cars. The design, though not classy, is decent and the body and chassis very sturdy. The car is known for being durable and in spite of having a diesel engine, the noise factor is managed well. Its noise is remarkably suppressed and while cruising in high gear it is difficult to tell what’s under the bonnet.

The short wheel-base chassis gives the Sierra a dynamic and squat look. Its top-heavy appearance is accentuated by the near-vertical windscreen, which gives it the aerodynamics of a bus. The fixed side glasses, which curve upwards, look great and characterise the Sierra.

The main change to the Sierra Turbo 4×4 is the front suspension, which has been changed from the original coil spring set-up to a torsion bar layout to accommodate the front-drive shafts. The rear uses the regular Sierra’s five-link set-up (see a picture below).

The Merc-like steering wheel can be adjusted for height. The instruments are well laid-out and easy to read. The Sierra 4×4 uses the identical 1948cc, 90bhp turbo-diesel engine as the Safari. Even the transmission and four-wheel-drive system is the same. The Sierra 4×4 is distinctly quicker. The dash to 100 kmph takes only 22.75 seconds while it can go up to a top speed of 144 kmph.

Tata Sierra – RearView

Positioned as a vehicle for both of-road as well as city driving, the Sierra is powered by a 2.0-litre, 4 cylinders, in line 483 DL Turbo (Diesel) engine, which generates a maximum power of 90 PS @ 4300 rpm, and a maximum torque of 19 kgm @ 2500 rpm.

The suspensions are double wishbone type with coil springs, anti-roll bar and hydraulic double-acting telescopic shock absorbers in the front and – coil spring type, 5-link suspension with anti-roll bar and gas filled telescopic shock absorbers in the rear. The brakes are vacuum assisted, hydraulic, dual circuit with tandem master cylinder – disc (in the front) and drum (in the rear) with ‘G’ conscious pressure reducing valve.

Firstever snaps of 2013 Tata Indigo eCS facelift dropped camouflage

The firstever spy pictures of Tata Indigo eCS facelift was snapped on November-2012, outside the Tata Motors factory in Pune. Since then numerous spy shots of the same has been surfaced on the cyber space, unlike, the previous spy pictures on the web, a new spy pic finally have a clearer view of the 2013 Indigo eCS refresh looks like.

From the spy picture, it is evident that the 2013 Indigo eCS gets a re-styled front end with the grille, bumper and smoked headlamps getting a refresh. At the rear, the Tata Indigo eCS gets a chrome strip emblazoned across its boot. Also has seen will get a new set of alloy wheels and new paint option called ‘Urban Bronze’.

On the inside, there are all the chances of refreshed interiors as well, in keeping with the overall theme of the facelift. However, the engine option will remain the same with a 1.2-litre petrol and 1.4-litre diesel, capable of churning out the maximum power output of 65bhp and 70bhp respectively. A CNG-petrol dual fuel option of the Indigo eCS is on the works.

The 2013 Tata Indigo eCS facelift is scheduled to launch on June 19^th June, as per the trusted sources. The big question, however remains to see, if the new Indigo eCS will it be able to compete with the likes of Honda Amaze, Mahindra Vibe and Maruti Dzire.

2013 Nissan Terrano SUV

The folks at AutoCarIndia bring us a sparkling revelation that Nissan has christened its own version of Duster SUV as ‘Terrano’. Another surprise revealed here is that Terrano will be priced around Rs 50,000-75,000 more than the Duster, unlike the current trend where Nissan’s are priced lower than their equivalent Renault models.

How come the Nissan version costlier than Renault? It was an agreement between Renault-Nissan that when Renault badge engineers a Nissan car, the Renault version has to be priced higher than its Nissan donor and vice versa. You can see the Micra and Sunny, it’s cheaper than its badge-engineered compatriot, the Pulse and Scala.

Now it’s time for Nissan to price the Terrano higher than the donor Renault Duster. But unlike the badge-engineered Scala and Pulse, which are the Sunny and the Micra with a few plastic add-ons, the Terrano will come with more significant exterior changes. The folks here also say that Nissan SUV will see changes to the sheet metal as well to bring the car in line with other Nissan SUVs.

The Terrano will come with a re-styled front & rear bumpers, headlights, tail-lights and repositioned license plate housing at rear. It speculated to borrow some cues from its elder siblings (Nissan SUVs) especially from the X-trail. On the inside, the interiors will be identical as part of cost-cutting, the only difference will be the Nissan logo pasted on the steering wheel. Also no mechanical changes are reported.

Like the Sunny name, Nissan has resurrected the Terrano moniker, which it had given to an earlier-generation mid-size SUV launched way back in 1993 and discontinued in 2006. The Nissan badged Duster christened ‘Terrano’ will hit the showrooms across the country by end-2013.

2012 Vespa GTS 125 Super Sport scooter images used as an illustration, to give our readers a broad idea about the Vespa VX125, with the disc brake and new paint job.

In January-2013, Financial Express revealed the two next launch from Piaggio will be the scooters based on Vespa LX125 itself, one with the disc brake option while the other is a sporty version. But so far its launch is postponed, now throwing some light to the same, the folks at Bike India reports the company will launch a newer version of the Vespa, christened ‘Vespa VX’, which will be a flagship model in Vespa scooter India line-up.

The Vespa VX will come loaded with more additional features and new exciting paint jobs, it will be more like a sporty variant of the LX 125 (as seen in the image above). The list of additional features include front disc brake unit and tubeless tyres, but new features will cost few k extra, so the VX 125 will priced a bit higher than the current Vespa LX 125 for sure. The launch is schedule for the end of this-month, and will hit the showrooms across the nation this-month itself.

Honda schedules to launch all-new Activa-i scooter on 12th June

Earlier this-month, we reported our readers that Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India is speculated to launch Honda Lead 125cc scooter in India soon. Now further strengthening the report a teaser image appears online which reades ‘ready to fly 12^th June 2013’ (image seen above) tweeted by an OnCars member Gauri Lokare says that the two-wheeler maker intends to christen it ‘Activa-i’.

At the moment, nothing much is known about the Activa-i, it is speculated to be the flagship model in Honda scooters line-up with a bigger engine. Currently, Honda doesn’t have a product any product in the 125cc scooter segment. Thus, Honda adding a 125cc scooter might become a nightmare to the entire two-wheeler manufacturer who are now enjoying the freedom in 125cc automatic scooter segment.

Although before we predicted the upcoming scooter could be the Honda Lead, which is already on-sale in Vietnam. Now going by the name Activa-i, we speculate the upcoming 125cc scooter could be the regular Activa variant with a 125cc engine sourced from Honda Lead. This scooter might get few sporty add-ons like a new sticker and multi color job. Furthermore, also expect it to get a telescopic suspension, Combi brakes, Digital speedo console and other new features.

Good news for all Mahindra fans, Mahindra has launched the all-new Verito Vibe which had rumors of being a hatchback but surprisingly turned out to be a sub-four-meter version of its compact saloon Verito. Mahindra Verito Vibe is expected to hit the sales market with a greater margin after seeing the response of the recently launched compact SUV Mahindra Quanto and the premium UV Rexton.

Coming to the technical specifications, the all-new Vibe is powered with the 64bhp Renault K9K 1.5-litre diesel engine which has been inherited from Verito and would not be available with petrol engines in the Indian market. This lack of petrol engines is due to the fact of meeting the norms required for lower excise duty since Mahindra does not have petrol engines that displaces 1.2-liters in displacement. According to ARAI Verito Vibe would deliver 20.8 Kmpl along with which Mahindra would provide 3 years/100,000 kilometers warranty as standards.

Vibes exteriors would be featured with stylish smoked headlamps, front grille which has a touch of carbon finish, roof rails, refreshed alloy wheel design, a new Christmas tree tail lamp cluster, boot lid would have a chrome strip, chromed exhaust tip and a new twin tone rear bumper. It would also be equipped with 2-DIN CD player with support for USB and AUX, electric wing mirrors, driver information system, driver airbag, ABS+EBD and 14 inch wheels. Apart from this Verito Vibe features wide body design and hence delivers ample shoulder room and leg room making one of the best in its class.

For most Royal Enfield buyers they would want the bike to reflect their personality and would not mind going an extra mile for that. Tendance Roadster one of the biggest Royal Enfield dealers in French has launched its own version of the Bullet Electra Deluxe, the Scrambler edition. The customization is done by none other than the dealer Principal Guillaume Tirard, who is also a great fan of customized bikes.

The mods done by Tirard not only give a great look to the bike but he is able to get 27% more power from its 500cc engine, thanks to the ‘Solution F Engine preparation’ kit. The kit includes a high compression piston, a hotter cam and a remapped injection system (via a new ECU). Probably the most eye catching part of the custom is the exhaust, which is slim and is placed much higher than we see on regular Bullet. Apart from these, the wheels have been replaced by Akront-type Morad rims wrapped with Mitas E-09 tyres.

The bike receives a paint job with matte black finish on the tank, the headlamp and the side panels. The turn indicator signal are small compared to the factory fitted ones, also the fenders have been chopped which gives the bike an off-roader look. The traditional seats have replaced by a single seat with brown leather finish, which is spring mounted and a small rack is mounted at the rear.
The mods have transformed not only the looks of the Electra but have also changed characteristic of the bike.

Yamaha YZF-R15 is one of the sports bikes which have crazy fans in India. Apart from its gorgeous sporty look, it has won the hearts of many bikers due to the handling, excellent performance and the style offered by this beast from Yamaha. Moving further India and Indonesia has some shared platforms manufactured by two different subsidiaries of Yamaha.

V-Ixion which is the Indonesian version of Yamaha is muscular and have some of the features inherited or we can say similar to Yamaha YZF-R15. Yamaha V-Ixion carries the same 150 cc liquid cooled engine as the YZF-R15 but is less stylish compared to the Indian beast. Here is the glimpse and the details of the modified YZF-R15 obtained by our friends at BikeAdvice.

A 5th year Medical Student Afnindy Leo Putra is one of the enthusiastic bikers of Indonesia. Afnindy owning a Yamaha V-Ixion had keen interest to look apart from his fellow bikers in Indonesia and also being influenced by the aerodynamic design provided by Indian YZF-R15 let him to have a desire to modify his V-Ixion. He imported all the aerodynamic body parts and the tail cowl of the Indian offering Yamaha YZF-R15 at a cost around 34000 INR. After having the body parts in place and taking advice from his college friends he decided to have Race-Blue Special Paint which was used by the Yamaha Moto GP team last year.

Afnindy also made some modifications to his existing V-Ixion engine such as IQUTECHE (Programmable) Stand-Alone ECU, 9POWER Spark Plug Enhancer, R9 Racing Coil, DAYTONA Max Fire spark plug, Custom Racing Exhaust, Change of final drive-ratio to 15:46 from stock figures of 14:42 and wider tyres which helped to accomplish a top speed of 145 kmph which was around 130 kmph before the modifications to the existing V-Ixion engine. Afnindy has spent around 100,000 INR in order to bring his bike to the tuned state which it is currently powered with.

Suzuki seems to be working really very hard to grab the market share it has been longing for since a long time. With its Inazuma nearing the launch date Suzuki is already working on a 250cc fully-faired sportsbike. With the Inazuma designed to give a comfortable yet powerful riding experience, this one is a sportsbike.

Recently Young Machine, a popular automobiles magazine in Japan published rendered images of what seems to be a small capacity Gixxer. The front fairing and the huge mono headlamp gives a clue that the styling of the 250cc bike will be derived from its elder sibling the GSX 1000R. What we see from the image, the bike will get a telescopic front suspension and a monoshock suspension layout at rear and the bike will be equipped with disc brake at its front and rear wheels. The exact spec of the engine and other components are not known so far, but it can be expected to similar to other 250cc bike in the Suzuki portfolio with some tweaks churn out better performance.

Suzuki has  already launched 250cc bikes which were even street legal with a top speed of above 200kmph. The bikes could produce a power of 45 PS@15000rpm and a torque of 24Nm@10500rpm which is a very impressive figure. However the bikes had their skeleton made out of steel rather than aluminum which made them heavier. These bikes were very popular in Japan, and were also sold in Australia and New Zealand.

The 250cc segment has picked up a lot of heat and every manufacturer is trying to launch its best beast to impress its buyers in this segment. With two new models, with totally different styling Suzuki has made sure that there will be one less reason for its buyers to look anywhere else.

Polaris plans for the introduction of Indian Motorcycles for India

Polaris is planning to launch a big V-Type engine which is already famous for ATV’s in India keeping the classic Indian engine look starting next-year. Initially started as the Hendee Manufacturing Company back in 1901, was later renamed to Indian Motorcycle Manufacturing Company in 1928. Stephen Julius and Steve Heese owner of the Chris-Craft and Reva luxury boat brands bought the Indian Motorcycles in 2004 which then began selling their range of Motorcycles from 2008.

Harley Davidson one of the premium motorcycles over the globe was initially launched in India in 2010. Although Harley Davidson was priced more than 5 lakhs INR, it saw an overall growth of 178 percent due to the demand for large capacitor cruisers. An impact of this growth led Polaris to also introduce their range of Motorcycles in India.

The Polaris introduction would be featured with a all-new 2014 Indian Chief motorcycle, as seen in the teaser above. It will be first unveiled at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally (world’s largest motorcycle rally), between August 3 till August 11, 2013. The motorcycle will be powered by 1819 cc engine, the same engine that powers the Thunder Stroke 111 motorcycle.

The 2014 Indian Chief motorcycle will be the first launch by the iconic American brand in India, as they pledged to launch their motorcycles into new markets including China and New Zealand. The Indian Chief will be retailing at $ 18,999 (Rs 10.4 lakh) in US. So we can expect the motorcycle to be priced a little over Rs 20 lakh with all the duties to directly compete with the Harley Davidson Road King. The other bikes in the current (2013) range of Indian motorcycles start at about Rs. 15 lakh.

Mr Ashish Joshi, MD on Triumph Rocket III at Auto Expo 2012

Already the British motorcycle maker Triumph had unveiled all their 7 models of motorcycles in the 2012 Auto Expo and also had plans of launching the same in India. The seven models unveiled include Tiger XC, Speed Triple, Street Triple, Storm, Bonneville, Daytona 675 and the Rocket III. Our fellow friends from BikeWale had a chat with the Triumph Motorcycle Company and as a response Triumph confirmed its launch in the third quarter of this year after which dealers, bookings and price of this bike would be revealed. The prices of these 7 models would range from 5,50,000 to 22,00,000 INR.

With the demand for quarter liter motor cycles in India, Triumph has also took this initiative including their range of motorcycles in order to compete with the likes of Kawasaki Ninja, KTM Duke and Honda CBR 250R. Triumph has plans to start its productions in the new plant being set up in Narsapur near Karnataka from next year. However prices mentioned above would be tentative and is expected to be lower or higher due to depreciating rupee and other macro-economic factors. We would update more details and specifications of this quarter motorcycle shortly since it has not been revealed till date.

KTM has planned to take this experience to a new level and is all set to launch the KTM 390 by next-month.

3.  KTM RC250 -

So if you thought KTM was only looking to impress riders who love the naked look of the bike, it’s not right, faired bikes have been a favourite in India from a long time now and the success of the Karizma is a good example. KTM is working on a fully faired RC250 which will share its platform with the RC8. The bike will be powered by a 250cc engine and as it turns out it will be the smallest KTM production bike with fairing.

4. Yamaha R25 -

Yamaha has kept the excitement going up and from every new product they introduced in Indian market have resulted in more numbers of fans. But having bikes only under 200cc is the major drawback. As per the news from Indonesian media, Yamaha is working on a 250cc bike. The bike is expected to have similar handling capabilities as of the R15 and with more power a much better riding experience is obvious.

5.  Suzuki Inazuma 250 -

Whenever we talk about performance bikes the picture we get is of a bike with race like riding position and an inclined seating. Well, Suzuki is all set to paints its own picture with the new Suzuki Inazuma. The bike has the looks and feel of a commuter bike, which ensures a comfortable riding position, but has a heart of a sports bike. The Inazuma has a parallel-twin 248cc engine than produces a power of 26bhp. The Inazuma has arrived in India and may soon be available in the showrooms.

6.  Honda CBR400R -

With the competition working on 250cc bikes, Honda is already one step ahead. Honda had showcased its versions of the CBR400 at the Tokyo Motor Show. The produces a power of 40bhp, which might seems less for the mighty motor, but it certainly has its own advantages.

7.  Mahindra Mojo -

This is one of the most talked about bike mainly for its design and the twin headlamp which gives it a very different look than the bikes we have seen so far. Also the home grown 300cc engine which produces a power of 26bhp were the features that were most talked about. But it’s been a long time now and there is no concrete news about the bike apart from speculations regarding design change and launch date.

Honda Lead 125cc scooter – FrontView

Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) wants to become the biggest two wheeler manufacturer in India by 2020. To achieve this ambitious goal, Honda will launch four new products in the country every year. In 2013, the company has already launched Honda Dream Neo 110cc motorcycle and Honda CB Trigger 150cc, thus, 2 more products are in the pipeline for this-year.

In March-2013, we already reported our readers that Honda Lead 125cc scooter might be heading to India. Now our good friend at OnCars.in, Rohit Paradkar has tweeted ‘Honda 2 Wheelers is planning to launch a new scooter soon. Expected to b a flagship fr its scooter range & cud run a new 125cc mill.’ Although it’s unclear, we speculate the upcoming scooter could be the Honda Lead, which is already on-sale in Vietnam.

Under the skin, the Honda Lead comes powered with a 125cc, liquid cooled and single cylinder engine that provides low friction technology along with high fuel efficiency. It has been provided with Programmed Fuel Injection system (PGM-FI) for high mileage, but we doubt the company will offer the same in India for cost reasons. We expect the upcoming scooter to cost around Rs 50,000-55,000.

Honda Lead 125cc scooter – RearView

Coming to the styling and specification, Honda Lead has been provided with a 5-spoke wheel , V-shaped thick chrome strip also with integrated indicators by the side of the chrome strip, LED Tail lamps, both digital and manual tachometer along with a clock, fuel lid and seat can be opened using the rocker switch through the main key and also a huge 37-liters of storage space under the seat.

The automatic scooter segment in India is heating-up, this is a right move taken by the Honda to further strengthen its share in country’s two-wheeler market. The upcoming Honda scooter will directly compete with the most expensive scooter in the country, Piaggio Vespa. Once launched, it will also become a nightmare to the recently launched Yamaha Ray-Z.

Mahindra’s Honda Dio/ Yamaha Ray rival

The automatic scooter segment of our India’s two wheelers market is enjoying a decent growth rate. Thus, almost every two-wheeler manufacturer is showing interest to foray into this fast developing segment, future seems pretty promising for Indian scooter buying crowd. The discontinued Kinetic Honda can easily be credited with playing an instrumental role in the development of this segment.

We are not going into depth! Kinetic Honda became Mahindra two-wheelers in 2008, the core business for Mahindra Two Wheelers still lies in the auto scooter segment. Today, our friends at BikeAdvice have captured a glimpse Mahindra’s upcoming scooter spotted on the outskirts of Pune near its plant. This scooter is early prototype with mismatched parts and a lot of camouflage to ensure its identity is hidden.

The scooter seen here is speculated to battle against the likes of Yamaha Ray and the Honda Dio. As per the unconfirmed report, this scooter is codenamed as 301 and will NOT carry the same 125cc engine from Rodeo RX and Duro DX. Although it’s unclear about engine size at the moment we expect a new engine to be get plonked into it with high fuel efficiency and power figures.

According to folks at BikeAdvice, this scooter is expected to launch probably by the end of this year, after the launch of the Centuro 110cc motorcycle. Also don’t be panicked to see if Mahindra market’s the new scooter as a ‘female specific’ offering. Apart from this, Mahindra also has a lot of products in its pipeline for the Indian market including a 125-150cc motorcycle, the 300cc Mojo and 2 more scooters as well.

Salman Khan and Suzuki Motors extends helping hand to farmers

The farmers in Maharashtra are facing a tough times because of a water shortage this-year. This situation year in Maharashtra has forced thousands of farmers to abandon their farms & villages and migrate to cities in search of relief. Thus, Bollywood superstar Salman Khan’s NGO, Being Human Foundation and Suzuki 2-Wheelers have joined hands to provide relief to the farmers and their families in times of difficulty.

This initiative by Being Human and Suzuki Motors will offer donated 100 good quality water tanks each with a storage capacity of 2,000 litres to drought-hit people in Beed, Osmanabad, Jalna, Aurangabad and Nanded in the past few days. These water tanks are sourced from Nagpur and will be handed over to the respective district collectors for quick implementation.

Mr. Atul Gupta, Executive Vice President, SMIPL, said, “The farmers of Maharashtra have been hit by the worst drought in decades. Through our limited efforts, we are trying to extend a helping hand and a ray of hope to the drought victims. We sincerely hope and wish for the weather conditions to improve and the dry spell to end.”

“This is the worst kind of natural disaster Maharashtra has faced in recent times. Through this initiative, we hope to provide relief to some of the most affected districts. A special thanks to Suzuki two-wheelers for their support towards making this initiative a success.” Superstar Salman Khan said.

Petrol price hiked by 75 paise, diesel by 50 paise

Petrol price was on Friday hiked by Rs .75 per litre and diesel by 50 paise a litre with effect from midnight. The reason behind the hike of petrol/diesel prices is mainly the value of rupee in comparison with the US dollar in international market, said expert.

The petrol price was decreased by 3 rupees on May 1. While the diesel price was last hiked on May 11, by 90 paisa a litre after the companies skipped raising rates in April to avoid troubles for the government during the Budget session of Parliament.

The increase announced is excluding local sales tax or VAT and the actual hike for consumers would be more after the incidence of duty is included.

With today’s hike, the rates of petrol per litre, allowing for local taxes, will be Rs.63.99 in Delhi, Rs.70.68 in Mumbai, Rs.66.85 in Chennai and Rs.71.29 in Kolkata.

The new rates for diesel per litre will be Rs.50.25 in Delhi, Rs.56.66 in Mumbai, Rs. 53.53 in Chennai and Rs.54.76 in Kolkata.

The company’s first global platform, the Mahindra XUV500 was launched in India in October 2011, with a simultaneous unveiling in South Africa. The model has been designed entirely in-house at Mahindra’s world class research and development facility called Mahindra Research Valley in Chennai in South India.

The Mahindra XUV500 is one of the best selling SUV’s in India selling over 35,000 units within a year of its launch, It has been the most awarded SUV in India, winning 22 awards in 2011-12 and has had notable success in markets like Nepal, Italy and South Africa. 2013 Tata Nano – FrontView

Just yesterday, we reported our readers that Tata Motors will launch 2 new cars, the Sumo Gold and Indigo eCS facelift on the 15th of June. Now according to a report by Business Standard, the home-grown carmaker could also launch the 2013 Tata Nano facelift sometime next-month. This means the recent revenue losses to Tata Motors is not going to stop the company from launching new models in India.

Furthermore, the folks here say atleast one new variant of the Nano will be launched in June-2013, thus, we believe it will be the same mildly tweaked one which was seen testing around a month ago, probably the petrol version, while the CNG variant will follow in coming few-months, and the diesel variant by the end of the year. The R&D department at Tata Motors is working overtime to give the compact car a new lease of life.

The 2013 Nano facelift incorporates the looks of the Tata Nano Concept that was showcased at the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo. It includes chrome strip on the bonnet lip, a similar strip just above the rear bumper, and a ventilated rear bumper. The rear bumper gets more air vents and this should help in better cooling of the diesel variant’s 800cc oil burner. The 2013 edition is likely to be treated to new paint options too.

2013 Tata Nano – RearView

On the inside, the car might come with added features and an upholstery change. The interior changes included a revised centre console, dual-speakers integrated in the dashboard, the dashboard will also have two glove boxes as a standard which was earlier seen in the special edition. Also the hazard light switch relocates from the steering column to the between the central aircon vents.

It is to be seen if Tata Motors plonks some additional features that were displayed at the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo such as a power steering, front disc brakes, pentagraph wiper system and Start-Stop technology that helps in reduction of fuel consumption, to have a better showing on the sales charts. At the moment, even the mechanical change to the petrol variant of the 2013 model is unknown.

2013 Mercedes-Benz A-Class – FrontView

Earlier today, Mercedes-Benz India launched the much anticipated A-Class premium hatchback, which is an  all new segment in the country, which will later be joined by BMW 1-Series and Volvo V40 Cross Country. The company has offered the new beast in both petrol and diesel models which offer one variant each. Its petrol variant is called the Sport while the diesel variant is named the Style.

A-Class is the smallest car in the Mercedes Benz line-up at present, and it has already proved a great success in Europe, with over 90,000 bookings in just few months after its launch, in India the success of this hatch is yet to be seen! To make the car more popular in India, the A-Class will have many individualisation options, including wheels, spoilers (front and back), body decals among others.

Mercedes-Benz A-Class Sport which is one such variant of petrol model is priced at Rs 22.73 lakh (Ex-showroom Mumbai). It comes loaded with a 1.6-litre, four-cylinder, turbocharged petrol motors that belts out max power of 121 BHP and top torque of 200 Nm. The motor accelerates the car from 0-100 kph in 9.2 seconds before attaining a top speed of 202 kph. It returns 15.5 kmpl of mileage on long roads.

2013 Mercedes-Benz A-Class – RearView

On the other hand, the A-Class Style diesel has been powered with a 2.2-litre diesel engine which produces max power of 109 BHP along with peak torque of 260 Nm. It offers mileage of around 20.07 kmpl on long drives. The car reaches triple digit speed from rest in 10.6 seconds and has a top speed of 190 kph. Both the models of the youth generation targeting luxury hatchback are mated to a dual-clutch 7-speed automatic transmission along with paddle shifters.

The car comes with 17-inch smoked grey alloy wheels and at a length of 4292mm, width of 1780mm and height of 1433mm, is huge for a hatchback. Standard equipment includes 7 airbags, ABS and ESP, Bi-xenon headlamps, Acceleration skid control, attention assist Adaptive brake lights, brake assist, Hill start assist, electric parking brake, tyre pressure monitor and many more. To offer better fuel efficiency, it has been equipped with Mercedes’ ECO Start/Stop function.

There is sad news though, the A-Class will not be offered in the blue colour they advertised the car in! Paint options limited to Jupiter Red, Cirrus White and Polar Silver Metallic for now. Hope they bring new paint options soon.

Toyota has been in the Indian automobile scenario for quite some time and its products like the Qualis and the Innova have been a big hit in the SUV segment giving a tough fight to manufacturers like Tata and Mahindra. Although other Toyota products in the sedan and the hatchback segment have not been a big hit but it would be incorrect to say that they have failed.

In recent times there has been a huge demand in compact SUV segment and small car segment and Toyota does not have any products to cater to such customers. Considering the demand Toyota may come up with more small cars and a compact SUV soon. Although it might happen soon, since at present there are glitches in policies like fuel policy and import tariff, which affects the auto industries and is causing delay in setting up of a new diesel engine manufacturing plant in India or introducing hybrid cars.

In an interview to TOI, Managing Officer, Toyota Motor Corporation, Satoshi Ohiso said, “If you look at our portfolio in India, we have just one small car, Liva. We need more if we have to have big volumes in a fast growing market like India.” Although he did not share any future plans regarding any future products, he did shared that the main agenda for the company is to develop a compact SUV for the Indian market.

Toyota Rush – SideView

“Globally, the compact SUV segment is getting more popular and in India it is also the same. We will definitely have our presence there,” he said. Ohiso also said the company will try to bring more contemporary global products keeping in mind how the Indian customers have evolved.

“We launched the Etios which was developed keeping the Indian market in mind. Today, the Indian customer is more aware of the international trends, they are discerning and our endeavor will be to satisfy them,” he added. The automobile industry in India is one of the fasting emerging markets and Toyota is certainly planning to stay here for long.

Toyota Rush – RearView

As stated by Toyota Motor Asia, Executive Vice President, Bernie O’Connor said, “Globally we are leaders, if you look in other Asian countries like Indonesia, the Philippines as well, we are leaders. Definitely, we have an ambition to be the number one in India as well in the long term,” He also added, “In the long term, we need to have a diesel engine manufacturing plant in India but the lack of clear cut direction in auto fuel policy is something we need to watch out for. We need to see which way India is going,”

“We would have to see how things are (import tariff) before we decide to launch more hybrid vehicles. At the moment it is a very costly proposition to sell our hybrids in India.”
