DC Avanti spotted on the Pune-Bangalore highway (NH-4)

DC design has always been known for their amazing customization of cars, from awesome design jobs on the outside to high-end interior mod jobs, DC design has done it all on different types of Indian cars. The engineers at DC design are very good at designing exotic looking cars and this was seen in the Bollywood movie ‘Taarzan’ wherein the lead role was played by a sports car designed by DC Design. It was little surprise that everyone was excited when DC announced that they would be building an indigenous sports car.

dc-avanti-spied-frontThe DC Avanti is the first sports car to be Made-in-India.

DC design first displayed a pre-production concept of their indigenous sports car at the Auto Expo, back in 2012 and named it the Avanti. 2 years later, at the 2014 Indian auto expo, DC revealed a production ready Avanti but there is no sign of the DC Avanti being launched just yet even though all the 450 limited production run cars have been booked and the customers are eagerly awaiting the delivery of their cars.

The delay in the launch of the Avanti has mainly been blamed on the difficulty in getting Renault Sport to supply the engines to power the Avanti, but now the deal has finally been signed and Renault Sport has now agreed to supply 450 of their 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engines to power the DC Avanti. Now that this hurdle has been cleared, DC has finally begun testing the Avanti extensively on the roads of India to ensure that it works perfectly in everyday driving conditions. A fleet of prototypes have been spotted testing on a regular basis since a long time, but now it appears as if they have entered the final stage of testing, as DC had earlier announced that the first batch of cars would be delivered to their customers by the end of this month, but it appears as if that has been delayed by a bit.

Several Avanti’s have been spotted on a Pune-Bangalore highway (NH-4) – we thank reader Varun Tandon for sending these in. The car was fully camouflaged and seemed pretty quick too, it will probably hit its electronically limited top speed of 180kmph easily. The DC Avanti is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol motor supplied by Renault’s motorsport division, Renault Sport, the same division of Renault which is an engine supplier in formula one too.

The 2.0-litre engine in the Avanti has a max power output of 260 BHP, which may at first not seem much by international sports car standards, but the boffins at DC claim that this is just right for Indian road conditions. The DC Avanti will supposedly accelerate from 0 to 60kmph in about 6 seconds and its top speed is limited electronically to 180kmph. This, coming from a ‘sports car’ is not all upto the mark, as a few C-segment sedans can easily do more than 180 kmph coming straight out of the dealership.

It is great to see an Indian Automobile manufacturer coming-up with a sports car and it definitely is the most ambitious car coming from an Indian Automobile manufacturer especially given that 300 of the 450 cars which have already been booked are all going to international markets. Given that it has been spotted testing frequently, we are sure that deliveries will commence shortly. The DC Avanti has been priced around the Rs. 40 lakh mark.
