As announced earlier, the Datsun redi-GO has been unveiled in full today, having made its world debut in India. With all the teasers, renderings and spyshots, there’s a lot that we already know of the new entry-level hatchback.
But as it turns out, there’s a lot more to know still. Based on Renault-Nissan alliance’s CMF-A platform that also underpins Renault Kwid, the redi-GO borrows the latter’s mechanical bits including the engine. The Kwid has a mini-SUV character, while the redi-GO gets tall boy stance and angular design elements. Though the two cars have a lot in common, they cater to audience bases with different tastes.
On the outside, Nissan’s familiar hexagonal grille dominates the front end, while the rear features a set of dramatic vertical taillights. Beautiful of not, that’s up to you to decide, but it’s interesting to note that the redi-GO gets a look of its own this time round – one that’s barely related to the Renault Kwid.
The interior too is different from its rebadged-sibling, with a simple grey dashboard featuring an unique centre console and a chunky steering wheel. With tall-boy stance it boasts increased headroom, easier ingress-egress and a more spacious cabin. The top-end grade is equipped with LED daytime running lights, front power windows, AC, audio system and driver-side airbag.
Under the hood lies a 0.8-litre 3 cyl petrol engine that currently does duty on the Renault Kwid. Power and torque outputs are yet to be released, however, Datsun India promises best-in-class fuel mileage. Like the Kwid, there will be a wide array of customization kits. Further, the buyers will benefit from Datsun’s unique financing scheme.
Priced around that of Renault Kwid, the redi-GO will compete with its cousin – Renault Kwid, Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 and Hyundai Eon. Bookings for the redi-GO will start from May 01, 2016 while the deliveries will commence from June 01, 2016.
