BMW-TVS K03 gets its wheel rim patented, 100% engineered by BMW Motorrad

TVS has formally reported their joint endeavour with German BMW Motorrad will deliver mid-sized bikes for Indian and global markets. The first bike to come out as a result of the JV will be a 300cc bike which has been codenamed as K03. Then again, very few subtle elements have been uncovered yet!

Visordown has uncovered a picture of an exposed wheel rim which is ascribed to a patent documented by TVS in India. Furthermore, the outline of this rim matches with the alloy wheel of the first test mule of the K03 which was seen back in January this-year.

Organizations for the most part apply for patents when they have finalised parts and outlines of their upcoming products.  The bike as we probably are aware at this point, will be badged as both a TVS and a BMW in diverse nations. This will give TVS a quite required worldwide presentation and BMW the promoting wizardry of a huge business sector like India.

Interestingly, BMW Motorrad’s president and CEO, Mr. Stephan Schaller, speaking to AMCN’s Alan Cathcart, said that they will want to start with single cylinder engines which directly means that the under-test K03 (expected to be a sub 300cc motorcycle). TVS-BMW’s products will have 100% engineering from BMW Motorrad, but the cost-effective local manufacturing and sourcing of parts will be done by TVS.

He further confirmed that the TVS will also produce its own range of models based on the BMW motorcycles, which basically means re-badging of similar products by both the brands depending on the markets. Unlike Bajaj and KTM, the TVS-BMW partnership deal doesn’t involve any financial transaction instead a mutual interest to develop cost effective modern bikes. BMW has no plans of buying stakes in TVS Motor Company.

Don’t be surprised, if first motorcycle from the partnership, codenamed ‘KO3′ is unveiled at the 2016 Auto Expo in February next-year.
