BharathAutos 2016 Top Five Cars list – best of the best

So we’ve come to the end of the year, and 2016 has certainly been very, um, interesting, hasn’t it? But it has brought along quite a wide variety of new cars for us to taste, which means that best of the best five cars for 2016 have each left a serious imprint.

There’s so many, in fact, that assembling the Top Five for this year has probably been the most difficult in all of my time here. Keep in mind that this list is in no particular order, as they each stand out in their own way. Ready? Onwards then

1.  Tata Tiago

Tiago’s aggressive pricing and a wide list of equipment on top variants lives upto Tata Motors old saying – “More Car Per Car”. It was meant to revive the Tata Motors brand in the minds of the buyers which it has successfully managed too, with the IMPACT design language and the biggest attraction is the fact that it feels much more expensive than it really is!

2.  Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza

The Vitara Brezza is an excellent choice for the entry-level SUV which is actually a cross over between a hatch back and SUV. It’s practical, spacious, well-equipped and good in terms of styling & road-presence, further a dual-tone colour adds an icing on the cake. It’s upright driving position and a fuel efficient motor attracts a lot of trust on this Maruti badged product.

3.  Toyota Fortuner

The second generation version of hugely successful Fortuner series from Toyota has a grand premium appeal and by the first glimpse it looks like a Lexus SUV. Like the Volvo S90 that takes the next slot in this list, it is the interior that makes the vehicle. The cabin feels rich and premium than before in terms of quality and finish and the Japanese car maker has put much more effort on the 2017 Fortuner which is evident leaving no stone unturned.

4.  Volvo S90

Volvo does things its own way and yes, I know the only differentiating factor between the XC90 and S90 is the body shell. However compared to the German trio – Mercedes-Benz E-Class, BMW 5-Series and Audi A6 and the brilliant Jaguar XF, the S90 has stunning exterior design, creamy performance, spacious, luxurious, classy and feature laden interior, and the full suite of safety packages for which Volvo has become so well known (all except blind spot warning, which Volvo has come to realize can be more of an annoyance than an aid).

5.  Skoda Superb

The Superb has always been Superb offering good space, comfort and equipment fit for the upper D-segment sedan. There’s absolutely no doubting, that Czech car maker has upped its game with this new Superb, featuring plenty of class-first and best-in-class features. Skoda says it’s its best car ever. Superb is more than just what it’s called!
