Bajaj Pulsar AS150 – Twin Spark DTS-i engine, projector headlamps

Alongside the Pulsar AS200, Bajaj Auto also launched the smaller 150cc adventure-tourer called Pulsar AS150. This story is on the less-powerful Bajaj Pulsar AS150 which is priced at Rs 79,00 (ex-showroom, New Delhi).

At first glimpse, the AS150 resembles its elder sibling, the Pulsar AS200 with semi-fairing, projector headlamps and split-seats. However compared to the AS200, the AS150 gets kick-start option and small disc brake upfront while the rear disc brake has been omitted. The major change is the engine, the AS150 is powered by a revised version of the existing 150cc air-cooled DTS-i engine.

This 149.5cc single-cylinder, twin-spark, 4-valve, air-cooled, DTS-i engine churns-out a fantastic 17bhp of segment-best power and 13Nm of torque, making the Pulsar AS150 the most powerful 150cc bike in the country today. It comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox, instead of 5-speed gearbox on the regular Pulsar 150. This tweaked engine produces 2bhp and 0.5Nm more than what the existing Pulsar 150 delivers.

A high-intensity projector headlight is also present on the Pulsar A150 it houses a 55W low beam projector lamp and 55 W High beam MFR lamp. It also gets a pressed steel perimeter frame which is claimed to offer a high-stiffness and low-flex ratio. The Pulsar AS150 gets a 240 mm disc brake upfront and a 130 mm drum brake at rear. It has a ground clearance of 170 mm, while it weighs 143 kgs.

Like the AS200, the AS150 too is available in three colour options – Red, Black and Blue. Priced at Rs 79,000 (ex-showroom, New Delhi), the AS150 is about Rs 5000 costlier than Pulsar 180 and about Rs 7600 cheaper than Pulsar 220. It will compete with the Yamaha Fazer V2.0 and the recently launched Suzuki Gixxer SF.

Bajaj Auto says the AS150 and AS200 target the youth and the young working segments, who desire a city sports bike which can also tackle long-distance weekend trips. It will take care of your Monday to Friday commute to office, no matter what the road condition is; while on weekends, it will be ready to take you on an adventure, no matter if you’re on-road or off-road.
