Bajaj Auto launched the new Discover 100 4G

Bajaj Discover 100 4G - Front&RearView

Earlier this-month, Bajaj Auto has silently launched a new variant of its Discover 100 motorcycle. The new variant is called the Bajaj Discover 100 4G and before you think anything, I must tell you 4G does not mean that you get any sort of high speed mobile communication ability, 4G simply stands for four gears. So the vehicle, previously featuring five gears will now feature only four with one gear chucked out. The removal of a gear also loses approx Rs. 1,900 from its price tag, thereby, making the 100cc variant of the bike even more pocket friendlier.

Coming to the technical specifications, Discover 100 is still powered by a same 94.38cc, DTS-SI 2.0 engine which produces 7.5 BHP of peak power at 7500 RPM and 7.85 Nm of peak torque at 5000 RPM. With a weight of 115 kgs, the Discover 100 is a very practical bike for consumers who are looking for an economical bike in terms of mileage. According to ARAI Discover 100 4G is reported to return a fuel efficiency figure of 89kmpl.

This move taken by Bajaj Auto to reduce the number of gears from the Discover comes with the intentions to increase the sales of the bike in the commuter segment. This move would allow the company to restrict Honda from regaining the number 2 slot and one can also look at it as an aggressive marketing ploy for Discover as it would be going head to head against the recently launched Honda Dream Yuga.

But we are still unaware if the 5 geared model will continue to be on-sale, we think earlier version may keep fighting in the market. While it might confuse the buyer a little, more options are always better no?
