The car will be assembled at the TKM’s second plant located in Bidadi, near Bangalore, in Karnataka. Camry, the legendary cornerstone of the Toyota brand, first introduced in 2002 in India, was until now imported as a CBU from Japan. The new model is the 7th generation of the Camry.

The new vehicles are powered with an all powerful new gasoline engine, 2.5-liter Dual VVT-i, which generates maximum power of 181PS@ 6000rpm and highest torque of 231NM@ 4100 rpm. The new engine is teamed with a 6-speed Automatic Transmission with a sequential shift. Highly fuel efficient, the Toyota Camry offers 12.1 kmpl as per ARAI.

The all-new Camry has been styled befitting a prestige sedan. It offers best-in-class cabin space, derived from the impressively designed wide body. The super silent passenger cabin provides a luxurious and quiet ride. According to Toyota, more than 90 percent of the parts have been reworked, but there is no escaping the fact that the car is still based on the same basic platform.

Currently there are no plans of bringing in a diesel-powered Camry and the company believes that the petrol variant will sell based on the high reliability quotient that the Camry enjoys world-wide. Toyota will offer only one variant of the Camry to compete against the rivals like the Honda Accord, Skoda Superb, Hyundai Sonata and Volkswagen Passat. But compared to the rivals Toyota Camry’s pricing is more expensive despite being a CKD unit.

On the safety front, the car is loaded with ABS, EBD, ESP and 6 airbags as standard equipment. The Camry also gets 8-way adjustable driver seat with lumbar support and steering mounted multi-function controls. The car is now open for booking with Toyota dealers across the country at a booking amount of Rs. 50,000.
