All-new Mahindra Scorpio to hit our roads in 2014

Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) has begun development of the all-new Scorpio. The new Scorpio is now codenamed as W105. The current Scorpio, now is almost 10 years old and is one of the best selling SUV in India. The Scorpio achieved yet another mark by selling 50,000 units in a single year. This achievement reaffirms the brand’s popularity and confidence that consumers have reposed in the brand. Today, the Scorpio is one of the most admired and awarded brands within the Indian automobile industry.

Mahindra is now working at its new research facility in Chennai for the new Scorpio. Firstly, we can expect new Scorpio to take some cues from its elder sibling XUV500. But it won’t share the XUV500 platform which is a monocoque, instead it will be based on a heavily modified version of the current Scorpio’s platform. The new Scorpio however is likely to have a lengthened wheelbase to help it tide over the current Scorpio’s one serious limitation – a lack of legroom in the second row.

The new Scorpio will feature an all-new body which will be significantly larger and an updated m-Hawk engine, the 2.2L engine from the Cheetah XUV500 that churns out 140bhp-330Nm torque is likely to go under the hood of Scorpio. The new Scorpio is expected to be around 250 kg lighter than the current model, known as T026; which could give it an edge as far as fuel economy is concerned. The new Scorpio is expected to hit our roads in 2014.

As we all know, M&M is famous for its rigorous testing methods so before it officially launches we can expect it to see in a trail-run camouflaged. So, keep your cameras ready to catch new Mahindra Scorpio, which is expected to unearth around Mahindra Research Valley, on the outskirts of Chennai.
