The German automaker, Audi has revealed refreshed a newly updated A3 line-up which includes A3 Sportback, A3 Sedan, A3 Cabriolet and A3 3-door Hatchback. However in India, the A3 is on-sale only in 2 body styles – Sedan and Cabriolet.
The 2017 A3 gets a sharper front-fascia with revised bumper design, broader & sharper single frame grille and a new lower air intake design that is connected under the grille, the reshaped headlamps with jagged bottom edges (similar to the ones on the new A4). That said, Bi-xenon lights come as standard on the entry-level luxury compact sedan, while the LEDs are optional.
Moving to the rear, the A3 Sedan facelift gets a new bumper and revised taillights with new LED graphics, while the reflectors have been moved down to the bumper. Also note the redesigned diffuser. It measures 4.24 metres in length and has a wheelbase of 2.6 metres. A range of 16- to 19-inch alloy wheels are available, with new designs.
Changes on the inside are very minute with the 3-spoke steering wheel has been redesigned with a standard flat bottom, while a massage function has been added to the front seats as an option. The acclaimed 12.3-inch TFT LCD Audi virtual cockpit instrument display is now offered as an option, while the MMI infotainment system has been redesigned with a flatter smartphone-style menu structure.
In India, the A3 Sedan comes powered by a 2.0-litre 4 cyl TDI diesel engine paired to a 6-speed S-Tronic gearbox. This motor presently churns-out 143 BHP and 320 Nm of torque, the power output is rated at 150 BHP on the facelifted model. A 180 hp 1.8-liter TFSI petrol engine is also on-sale in India on the A3 Sedan and Cabriolet.
The A3 Cabriolet is completely imported into India, while the A3 Sedan range is assembled at the Audi’s Aurangabad plant from CKD kits. The facelifted A3 Sedan and Cabriolet are expected to come to India by the end of this year or in early 2017.
