2015 Mercedes-Benz CLS facelift officially revealed, ahead of Goodwood Festival

The wraps have come off the eye-catching 2015 Mercedes CLS Class with Multibeam LED headlights in both four-door coupe and Shooting Brake versions. The new CLS was reportedly due to make their official debut at the Goodwood Festival at the end of the month. As far as changes are concerned, the 2015 CLS comes with a revised front, which matches with the new face of Mercedes for cars across range.

What is Multibeam LED headlights? This is very similar in function as to Audi’s Matrix headlights, allowing the driver to stay on high-beam all the time. The 24 separate Smart LEDs inside the Multibeam LED will recognize the oncoming traffic, and switch off the ones which are focusing on oncoming traffic, thereby not causing trouble to the driver of oncoming vehicle. This technology will not be on offer in the US as such systems are banned by law.

The front gets a single slat front grille inspired from the CLA Class, aggressive bumper design with large air intakes and a new splitter. At the rear, not much has been changed. Bumper is slightly revised and gets slightly darkened tail lamps with multi-level function. 2015 Mercedes-Benz CLS facelift will also come with new colour options.

On the inside, the 2015 CLS gets a new 3-spoke sports steering wheel and a new free-standing eight-inch colour display for the head unit. The center control panel now features two buttons as against the earlier four, and reduces the operating steps says Mercedes. Furthermore, the interior gets five attractive interior colours and six trim finishes and grades of leather.

Under the hood, the CLS will be offered in a range of five engines options including petrol and diesel. All fulfil the Euro 6 standard. The engine range starts with a new four-cylinder diesel model called CLS 220 producing 170 hp and 400 Nm of torque. The other diesel engines, CLS 250 with 204 hp and 500 Nm of torque and CLS 350 with 258 hp and 620 Nm of torque, continue unchanged and are in fact offered in India (on the pre-facelift).

The petrol line-up includes the CLS 400 which now gets a turbocharged 3.5-liter engine, and the CLS 500 with the flagship V8 engine. Apart from these engine options, Mercedes will offer the CLS 63 AMG with the 5.5-liter V8 engine making either 557 hp or 585 hp. Four of these models will be available in the future with permanent all-wheel drive, including the CLS 250 BlueTEC 4MATIC and the CLS 400 4MATIC.
