Having enjoyed an enormous success worldwide with the Cayenne, Porsche is planning to launch smaller SUV named ‘Macan’ to compete with the likes of Audi Q5 and BMW X3. According to Porsche, the name Macan is derived from the Indonesian word for tiger. Porsche says that the tiger combines suppleness, power, fascination and dynamics – core characteristics of the new SUV. Now the first ever fully undisguised images of the Macan, along with a side-by-side comparo with the Audi Q5 have hit the web.

The 2014 Porsche Macan will make its world premiere at the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show on November 20th. The design of the Macan draws heavy inspiration from its elder brother Cayenne. The new headlamp and the big bumper give a sporty and aggressive look for the Macan. But will have different rear-end that features a tailgate-mounted spoiler and slender taillights. It will also gets the LED-infused headlights, a sloping roofline and curvaceous bodywork. The vehicle is built on the Volkswagen’s famous MLB platform, which also underpins the Audi Q5 crossover.

On the inside too, the Macan’s interior resembles the Cayenne, and comes equipped with a three-spoke steering wheel and a bigger infotainment system in the center console. The vehicle also has dark trim, metallic accents and a familiar dashboard. According to the review of the German motoring magazine Auto und Motor Sport, the Macan dashboard is very sporty but the cabin is very cramped and the rear seat has low legroom & headroom, and the reviewer does not recommend it for large families. The seating position is very high and gives an SUV feel to the drive.
