The all-new Yamaha Alpha scooter has been officially launched at a reasonable price of Rs 49, 518. The Alpha scooter has been developed by the Japanese manufacturer for the Indian market especially targeting nuclear families. The underpinnings of the Alpha scooter will be similar to the Ray, which includes things like the suspension, engine and transmission.

The Alpha featuring a longer seat to accommodate the typical Indian scooter riding family will directly compete with the likes of Honda Activa and the Suzuki Access. The scooter also boasts ample storage space. The Alpha’s key features include telescopic suspension at the front and upright type rear suspension. Yamaha brought it out based on the concept of “Easy to go and high utility city mover”.

Under the skin, the Alpha will be powered by the same engine that powers the Yamaha Ray and Ray Z scooters, which comes equipped by an air-cooled 4-stroke 113cc engine with CVT (Continuous variable transmission). But the engine is tuned to provide great acceleration and an amazing fuel economy of 62 kmpl. The Alpha will be available in a total of 5 shades – Black, Grey, White, Red and Magenta.

Commenting on the launch, Mr. Hiroyuki Yanagi, President, Chief Executive Officer and Representative Director, Yamaha Motor Co. Ltd, said –

“We certainly see a lot of potential for the Scooter Market in India as we expect it to reach 3.6 million units in 2014. India has a crucial role to play in our global Yamaha group and this year our focus here is on three important strategies. The first being introduction of new models reflecting the unique style and concept of Yamaha with products that deliver great performance and are also cost efficient. The second is to intensify our sales and marketing capabilities and after sales services. The third strategy involves expanding our market and reaching out to more customers by tapping untouched regions. This includes the rural market in India where the Yamaha Brand still has a low presence.”

“I am very happy to add ‘Alpha’ to our scooter lineup in India which is most certainly in line with our first strategy andI am confident that the Alpha will indeed pave its way to winning customer’s hearts.”
